Any travel bloggers on here?

I met up with a travel blogger in bangkok.

He's doing very well for himself, and the perks of the job are awesome, he was staying, free, in a 5 star hotel.

This is definitly something I'll be looking into, I've traveled quite a bit, been to about 40 countries... I had a small travel blog 3 years ago, but let it drop, doh!

The gas thing is, his knowledge was pretty limited, he's just been making money from advertisments from his network of sites... hasn't built a list, no affiliate marketing... I think this has worked in his favour as he's just been concentrating on one system.

After chatting to him, he's aware that he needs to build a list, and look into affiliate marketing, it's just new to him.

He has sussed out the whole outsourcing thing.

So ye, pick a system that works, and stick to it.

Make Video footage of your travels and upload them on youtube. Focus strongly on blogging and video marketing. lots of travel companies, insurance CPA OFFERS, will pay you as an affiliate. imagine if a traveller purchases a $2000 holiday/vacation through your link, even at 10% you will be making money.

    Example of travel companies
    1. Expedia
    2. ebookers
    3. ticket on net
    4. recommend hotels at hotels.com
    5. trip advisor
    6. sell travel insuarance, big bucks

Like it a lot! Certainly in the UK, if a business trip is 100% for business purposes then it's all claimable against UK income tax - fairs, hotels, travel, entertainment. After all, even luxury hotels have to be reviewed by someone: the tax authorities will never set out to make you review cheaper ones.

So having a series of travel websites which is making money from the sources sexy sue mentions has a great appeal, I must say.

My wife is thinking of starting a travel blog. She's travelled the world over already and its one thing she's passionate about. When our child gets a bit older, we will travel internationally again.

You would never get away with that with HMRC. Not 100% anyway. I was able to claim around 50% of my trip to Florida against tax. However, they said because part of it was 'personal enjoyment' I couldn't get all through the company. Although no complaints, still saved me a bulk of cash!

I like it, but would be very surprised if you could claim 100%!

My mate also gets travel gear to review, free of course.

If you travel extensively it makes good sense to make a video blog using YouTube and WordPress. YouTube can be used for uploading video footage and you can embed the videos on your travel blog adding detailed notes to supplement the video.

If you have a channel on YouTube and a travel blog you can monetize both in various ways and promote several products on you blog.

I have a blog of some of my trips, but I never monetized it. Ever since I came back though, I've been working on a product that I think travel bloggers would be interested to offer to their lists.

Most travel blogs I see don't seem to be monetized, except for a list. A few have their own guide book, but that's about it.

Does anyone know a good place where Travel IMers hang out and talk?
