any wordpress experts out there?

i have several domains hosted on one account with hostgator.

for one of my sites (myurl.com: The Leading Domain Names Site on the Net) i want to install a wordress blog. ideally i would like the url of the blog to be "http://www.myurl.com/blog".

when i try and install wp through the host Gator control panel (fantastico de lux) I tell it to create it in a folder named 'blog'. However when the site is installed the url is "http://.myurl.com/blog".

1) when i visit "http://.myurl.com/blog" all i see is a list of files? why is this?

2) I can view the blog at "http://.myurl.com/blog/index.php" why do i need the index.php?

3) Why is there no 'www' in any of these addresses?

many thanks in advance

I think you need to login to your wp-admin first and fill in the correct settings.

As for the www vs. no www, you need to set up a .htaccess to set your preferences.

May seem like a dumb question, but did you see if the path is correct?
The example above has a dot before the url?

why not try using your ftp client create a sub directory blog. Upload all the files to this sub-directory. Then use the 5 min install how to do this is in the readme.html doc you get with the download.

This is how i installed all my wp blogs.

        Hi Chill,

First of all, you can easily modify the url to include the www. Login to your wordpress admin panel, click on settings (link on right) and add the www to the text boxes. Takes all of thirty seconds.

Also, when you install wp to a folder, you shouldn't see a list of files. YOu should see the default hello world wordpress page. Not sure if your install went properly. I would uninstall and reinstall. Make sure that you put the folder name in correctly, as in: blog not /blog for example.

And as previously mentioned, the leading dot before your domain name looks like a typo.

        Hope this helps...

          For a complete WP amateur..

Could you please tell me how to delete my blog from fantastico?

i didn't have any content on it except for 12 plug-ins - that's it...no posts, nothing. (I want to start all over again with a different piece of software) for the blog for added security

and if i do this, of course i can still keep my sub-directory name which was blog.mydomain.com yes?

but my first question has to be spelled out for me, as I'm really technically challenged.

          Thanks a bunch!
          Mark

          Hi Kat - many thanks.

          1) the ".myurl" was a typo. aplogies
          2) thanks for the tip re changing the url in WP setting.

          3) I still only see a list of files when i navigate to myurl.com: The Leading Domain Names Site on the Net

To see the hello world screen I have to navigate to the Chilli King

how to i set this up in the .htaccess?
