Webinars - Are You A Fan?

Something I've always wondered. I never saw the appeal, but supposedly they convert quite well. But from an end user perspective, do you like them as a format for learning things?

I'll often listen in on webinars for telemarketing & other offline concepts. Sometimes you'll get some good information but other times it'll just be an hour of regurgitated stuff I've heard a million times. Really depends. I personally enjoy them generally.

Some I've been on & it's been a waste of my time. Most I sign up for & wait for them to post the replay. While I know they're all sales pitches, being a n00b, have picked up some nuggets.

In fact, one I was in yesterday just revitalized my quest to be successful online. I was really interested in the offer, but even with the payment plan, didn't have the money. So it made me refocus to say...hey I want this beyond badly & when an offer, sale (not just online but IRL too) is presented, I want to be able to do it. Not wish I had the money, but be able to pull out my card and get it.

I don't like them because they are grossly limited. I use my own classrooms full of slides, related video embeds, online document reader, integration with web 2.0 properties, resources galore and many, many opportunities to upsell my attendees.

My classrooms are engaging and there is always a lot to do and to learn other than what is tendered on the screen. With skype integration and standalone chat capabilities, my classrooms a lot more interesting and geared more for educating your audience which most webinars really do not come close to.

They're good for limited content but then it becomes just a glorified sales page or a glorified blog post.

            I don't like them.

Not because of the format, but because a well-done webinar is extremely rare.

I don't like webinars or video courses either for that matter. I still prefer the old school PDF document so that I can quickly scan through that sh*t and be DONE. I once had to watch a 27 minute video just figure out how to change an option on a stupid program. Little to say I was pissed.

If it's a live webinar, I like it once it gets to the point quickly, no endless waffle and chit chat between the hosts, they present the product / facts / information, the offer if there is one and don't make you wait for ages to spot the catches or drawbacks.

For the above reasons, I prefer recorded webinars with the option to jump through or skip ahead past the time wasting parts.

I find most webinars are hugely time consuming for just snippets of information that you'd have got to way more quickly in a sales page or pdf document.

I'll register for a webinar but never intend on watching it live. I wait for the recording to go up and then I'll download it. I seriously have yet to see a live webinar that has been worth my time.

I watch many webinar replays. I rarely watch live webinars because too much time is wasted on banter and fluff. With the replay I can pick what I want to watch and skip the rest. I only buy a product if the price is low and it is of serious use to me. JM

Nope. Waste of time. I only watch something on video if it's to show me how to do a very specific task that's difficult to explain in text. Otherwise I just prefer a PDF.

I think webinars are cool and an effective medium for learning/teaching...

If you don't like webinars it's probably because you only watch the "pitch-fests" that people are constantly mailing out for.

Watching a quality webinar that isn't about pitching a product is MUCH different.

I'm a fan of webinars. They are a great way to stay current on lots of issues. I sign on for a few each month, many free, and some paid, and I'm used to mixed results.

Call me picky, but when I'm investing my time, my expectations are high, regardless of whether the webinar presenter is offering a free session or charging for it.

Some I do. Some I don't. It depends on the content and the presenter.

The way I look at it, it's like saying, "Do you like TV shows?"

Well, yes of course I do, but only the few that actually interest me. Most TV shows I would probably feel bored watching. Probably the same for many.

I like them and I used to watch a lot when I first started.

I don't watch them anymore, but I highly recommend newer marketers to watch them.
