Own Products -VS- Affiliate Marketing?

What makes you more money?

I've definitely banked more on affiliate marketing.

I've had some good products of my own that are/were pretty stable for me, but at the end of the day I would be lying if I said they made me more money than affiliate marketing.

Just interested in what worked for you guys, from the people who have done both?

I think its easy to say your own products.. "you have more control" ect... but for me affiliate marketing always gave me the flexibility that got me paid.

Its just what worked for me.

It's much harder to create your own products and put together a full sales funnel but much more lucrative.

There is a lot of money to be made building your list and marketing affiliate products to your list but there's even more money building a buyers list and then recommending your other products or affiliate offers to them.

This is the correct answer. Affiliate marketing is easier for newbies to begin making money with but product creation is the much more lucrative path in my honest opinion. It really just comes down to a personal preference.

I prefer affiliate marketing ... there are so many great offers available. I even promote some local businesses and receive commissions from new business I send them. I don't have to provide the services or do anything ... just generate traffic and sales.

I've made more money with my own product. With backend marketing, I make a killing. I dont see a way to earn backend profits with affiliate marketing... unless you sell and promote a monthly residual income program like web hosting (Hostgator comes to mind).

If the average splitt is 50/50, without considering traffic from the developers network, market value is even. But owners will build there list from your list, and eventually rake in the great profits. Not even considering that for every product creator there are 100 affiliates to share the commision.

2 single best methods to generating overwhelming income online

      1) Sales Funnels
      2) Product launches

You can set up a funnel/sequence for your affiliate marketing which I have found to personally do an amazing job for income.

Your own product tho... well if you set that up right and your product is strong enough, you will kill anything else you can do online.

Perhaps I am ill equipped to answer being I've yet to create my own products. Affiliate marketing certainly has more appeal to a newcomer. But when you look at those who do membership training WordPress themes, and recurring billing type products, one cannot ignore the potential.

I mean if you think about it, a me mbership site with 1000 members paying $25 per month is $25,000 or $300,000 per year. Ramp it up to what some top marketers charge like $97 per month and that's some serious banking.

Affiliate sales, simply because there are so many more things
to sell to so many more people.

But, when it comes to ROI, my own products hands down.

I do not do affiliate marketing for others, but I have my own monthly subscription service with affiliates.

I love paying my affiliates their monthly checks. It means I am earning 2x as much from their marketing efforts. Plus I have full control over the product.

Tough to beat that combination. I developed my first service 4 years ago with $250 in my pocket. It is now a mid-six figure business. I am using the profits to develop businesses #2 and #3 as we speak. And you can bet your ass I will be recruiting affiliates for them as well.

    if you just started,
I think you better go with affiliate marketing.

    go with your own product.

    p/s : i rather go with affiliate, as i didn't
    have to handle support

I like making my own products, and I earn more that way.

My buyers list makes MUCH more than my leads list. And people know and trust you from your products. And although I haven't tried to sell coaching from an affiliate offer, I'd expect that it's much more difficult, because it's harder to position yourself as an expert, as selling other people's products over your own implies to the customer that you have more faith in the product owner than yourself...

And surely this means that you're helping to position someone else as an expert rather than yourself. And positioning is a real profit booster for me.

    Hope this helps,

I prefer to create my own products. The issue with affiliate marketing is that your at the mercy of the affiliate network or product owner. If neither decide to pay you, well your screwed. Product creation your in the drivers seat and you can control your own destiny, and you can have other affiliates working for you pushing your product while you relax. Yes its time consuming to put a product together, but the long term benefits are well worth it.

  • That is MUCH more money to be done with your own products because you can leverage and expand on them far more than affiliate promo campaigns.
