Retargeting - good results so far

Hey guys

Has anyone tried remarketing networks such as AdRoll?

We've just started some remarketing campaigns and are seeing click-through rates 3 times those that Google typically deliver for us.

The jury is still out on conversions - I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Neil

I'd be interested in hearing how it goes also. I've been researching this a bit more lately and as a core marketer I believe this would be a very successful tool for the right products. It's all about frequency and how best to capitalize on that than by putting the product right back in front of them based on their prior searches. It worked on me here just recently actually. I would be interested to know their parameters for when it gets remarketed - i.e. is the trigger based on a weighting scale of min. # of visits to the product and/or time spent looking at the product. Would hate to remarket if they landed once and didn't like it in the first place.

I'll check it over the next day or so. I was just letting it run for a while.

It was kinda weird seeing my ad appear on a totally unrelated website during a bit of surfing downtime!

While you're considering whether to go with them or not, one thing you might want to think about doing is sign up for an account and put their tracking code on your page so that you immediately start to tag interested people. You don't need to create a selling campaign at this point - that can be done later.

If you do decide to use their service and create a campaign, they require you to have tagged at least 1,000 visitors before they will run the campaign so you will have a great head start.

I took this bit of advice myself and had over 3,500 people to re-market to when I eventually launched the paid campaign.

    Cheers,

I've been doing remarketing on the web and Facebook for the past 6 months with PerfectAudience. It's brought back a significant number of prospects that eventually converted. If you visit Improvely, you'll likely start seeing Improvely ads around the web.

I thought I would update this thread as I said I would when it had run for a time.

Click-though rate is 0.37% (it has been much higher and this is today's snapshot)
      CPM is $1.66 (dead cheap)
CPC is $0.47 (much cheaper than good Google keywords)
      CPA is $41.47
ROI is 370% of amount spent

So it is successful so far and I'm going to try ramping it up to drive up the absolute numbers.

      Cheers,

    Hi

Where do you send the traffic? Squeeze page? Blog? Facebook page?

    Thanks

The ad specifically states "Free Installation Today" and sends the prospect to a page that explains this "soft" time-limited offer with a link to order.

I will build in a micro-segmentation email marketing system in due course but I wanted to test this in its raw form for now.

    No brainer marketing, anyone?

I was going to say clicks don't mean anything but 800%, that is interesting.

I'm not talking clicks. I'm talking sale conversions which, of course, are all that matter.

Is it 800% as in you spent $100 on remarketing and got $800 in sales from people that saw those ads?

Or did you segment the traffic from some source and remarket to only some of it, and the difference in conversion rates between the visitors that weren't exposed to remarketing and those that were was such to generate enough additional sales that the ROI of the remarketing alone was 800%?

You can't really calculate the ROI of the remarketing otherwise. It's only a conversion assist, it's not bringing any new people into the sales funnel. Every one of the people that were targeted by the campaign may have converted without it -- the average time between first exposure and conversion is longer than most people think.

Either way, the ROI is usually positive, for now. I'm not sure how long remarketing's going to be viable -- both browser makers and legislators are lobbying pretty hard to make this kind of targeting impossible. Firefox just followed Safari's lead in disabling 3rd party cookies by default as of release 22. That'll shut off most of the tags for building retargeting lists.

I'm talking specifically about the spend on remarketing and the sale conversions that came directly from that effort which are being tracked through the remarketing ad clicks.

I suppose the unknown is how many of those people who have bought after clicking the ad would have done so anyway.

That would be more of a concern if the ROI was less.

Another interesting point is that the CPA is less than 50% of an affiliate commission so it falls well within the CPA limits we set ourselves.

Just a quick update for those following this.

ROI is currently 1,693% based on conversions directly attributed to our re-marketing campaign.

    Not bad.

    Not bad at all.

Remarketing is awesome, i use it all the time for local businesses... it makes there ad campaign look huge when in fact it really isn't only for the people who got tagged of course.

When you do remarketing try to get cheap traffic in your niche, look at your ROI then, i have had some nice results with cheap niche traffic and remarking... not every niche work though..

If you read this and you're into PPC and not into remarketing it is time you should read up on it, @ OP goodluck with your remarketing efforts

I'm even more amazed by the fact that I just threw this together as a marketing experiment to give some benchmark numbers.

My next step will be to split-test ads and roll out more campaigns based on micro-segmenting with (of course) arpReach.

Darn, I thought this thread was about "remarketing" not "retargeting" Anyway.. Does anyone remember a product called "remarketer"? It made the top-left corner peel back when someone moved their mouse toward the back button, and showed another offer in the "peeled back" page. I would love it if someone made a wordpress plugin that did that.

Woops, just realised you're right, my thread should have called it re-targeting.

I'm going to start re-targeting soon. I've heard great things about it and I love the concept on how it works.

I first heard of it through Justin Brooke (the traffic strategist) and decided that I was going to dive into it after I watched this video from him >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn1xUQ7P0Lo

    Neil,

Can you share how you are driving traffic (SEO, PPC, PPV) ?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[7870786].message }}

    Hi,

I'm not sure what you mean.

Re-targeting means that people will see my ad as they browse around the web if they visit my site but don't convert.

So I'm not driving target for this campaign because they were already on my site from all the methods I already use.

    Cheers,

    Hey guys,

I just thought I would resurrect this thread in case anyone was wondering how it was going.

Well, it has been running continuously since this thread was started and has settled at around the 800% ROI mark which is money well spent IMHO.

    Try it!

    Hope it helps.
