Negative Keyword Research Indicators

"Brand pages on niche retailer sites are very difficult to beat in the search engines."

e.g. (For the keyword WarriorForum Boots): zappos.com/warriorforumboots

I've heard quite a few people say this but it goes against my own experience. Any thoughts?

Dan.

Not particularly difficult. In fact, in case of "warriorforum boots" you can do it within about an hour in most cases.

There's zero competition for this keyword and zero searches. This means that you'll be able to nail it "instantly."

Most "brand" keywords can be won, particularly the long-tail ones. Even the ones which have "some" competition.

The challenge begins when you want to conquer "niche-level" keywords or other very popular keywords - brand or no brand.

In that case, following all the best SEO practices will definitely yield fruits. NOTHING is impossible to beat, but some keywords are VERY tough. Surprisingly, not all that many, though...!

      Thanks for that MktCoach,

I was just using WarriorForumBoots as a hypothetical example, as a "brand" keyword that you want to rank on the first page but that has competition in the form of a niche online retailer with a page dedicated to that brand.

A more realistic example might be "High Sierra Bags".

      Cheers for the reply,
      Dan.

    Hi guys,
There is difference between "warriorforum boots" and "boots warriorforum" in SEO.

"boots warriorforum" is more difficult to rank well
Because of the word "boots" (high competitive keyword by itself)
