Guide for music marketing, which form?

Hello everyone,

Over the course of the last months, I've started up a music website promoting all kinds of music. What I stumble upon very often is musicians who are struggling to promote their music online.

As I'm spending a lot of time promoting music and sharing it among listeners, I felt like providing a guide for musicians and music sites to help them promote their music for a reasonable price, containing all of the methods I use and results of the testing I did.

Would this be a good idea?

And in what form would be the best way to publish this? As a standalone PDF guide? A Kindle / E-book?

Any suggestions or tips are more than welcome.

Peace!

Seems pretty good niche for me... I'm not a musician, but I believe it would sell. Especially if you have done some casestudies. I would go with simple e-book containing all the information you know about it.
Surely give it a shot. If it will not work out, simply give it away for free and build a list.
    Good luck

I am a songwriter and I thought about sharing my experience with using social media in my journey. Thanks to twitter, Ive met A&R's from Def jam, Atlantic, etc and I stress to upcoming artist, songwriters, producers, that TWITTER is a fabolous tool and you can actually meet legitimate people. If you need me for a case study, ill be glad to share my two cents in your ebook

You should try abit of everything.
You need to expose your guide to as many people as possible.

One effective way is to recruit affiliates to promote your guide.

It is a tough business to compete in and be successful.

My daughter is a pop singer in LA and has had hundreds of thousands of play as a result of social media. During that time, we have seen many music related sites come and go. It is ultra competitive. If you opt to start a membership site really think about the unique angle you can offer musicians.

There is also a lot of information on how to "make it in the industry" etc. much of which is given out free by some of the big sites so if you opt to make a related product, again focus on what unique perspective you can bring.

Well, it's hard to judge the music industry as a whole as it's very diverse and it depends on what genre / type of music you focus on. Pop music, for example, gets so much attention and the market is so saturated that it's hard to provide something unique. However, for my target audience, there isn't that much of a platform yet. However, I am currently looking into unique features that could attract more attention to the site.

I am not referring to competition within genres such as pop music. I am referring to competition within the industry competing for artists.

There are tons of sites that cater to artist music promotion and we have seen many come and go. There are many books and PDF's that tell artists how to make it.
There is always a new site trying to get artists to sign up or a new book on it. People are passionate about music and many want a piece of the pie.

So it is a matter of having a unique vantage point to share with the artist whether you offer up a PDF or membership site.

It's mostly aimed at the tecniques I use within social media to get the attention of the audience I target. I guess my unique vantage point would be the focus on social media rather than making it in general and the exact methods I use which I found out myself by testing, doing research and putting in a whole lot of hours. I don't think I will build a membership site for now, just a PDF guide. Once I find that there's an opportunity to further extend it, I might build a site around it.

My advice is to interview your existing audience. Put a survey on your site and a big ole notice encouraging your audience to tell you the best medium to deliver your content to them with.

Maybe your audience would rather watch a video or series of videos. If that's the case, get an s3 account or a libsyn account and give it to them as video files behind a paid membership site, perhaps with a one time fee.

Maybe your audience would rather have audio files, similar thing with video will work.

Maybe your audience wants a PDF, maybe they want a Kindle Book, or Nook Book, or an iBook. Maybe they want all four versions.

GO SURVEY YOUR AUDIENCE ON YOUR SITE!
