Questions about adding forum to site

I am happy to say that last month my site made a total of $5.00 with google adsense but this month, I am now up to $90 thus far. I started writing serious articles and making a real effort to get traffic. I have to say I did not think it would ever happen and it did. I am next wondering about adding a forum to my site. People want to talk, a lot about the subject I am writing about. I have website that I added a blog to, using wordpress. Thus far, I have used the blog to attract visitors.

Would it be better to add the forum as a wordpress plugin or explore other avenues with regard to adding a forum, such as adding a forum as its own separate part of the site (and not through wordpress)? Can adsense ads be added to forums, if I already have adsense on my blog? Are forums a lot of work and are they worth the effort? What in general are your thoughts on forums, and if they are a good thing for a site? Thank you.

    Hi Little Grey...

Congrats for the awesome revenue... However as far as your question matters here are 2 options with different situations...

    1. Add Wordpress Forum...

If you want management under one roof and want a relatively small discussion board which you can manage yourself then this is the best option....

    2. Add Separate Forum...

If you have plans to expand the forum in future and looking for something really serious then you must go for this.... Though it will require lot of work soon as the forum will grow but it gives you the ability to expand with lots of options and yes you can sell board wide advertisements and adsense too...

So take your time to think and research deep and decide which option do you want...

    All The Best!

I'd suggest going with option 2 since forum software will have a lot more options and features for you. You can just install it in the /forum/ directory and be good to go.

Be warned that its very tough to get a forum started unless you have a lot of traffic to your site already.

    Good luck!

I agree with quadxnet. A forum seems like a great way for your customers/potential customers to come together. I have seem a lot of forums fizzle out quick...either was bad content in the forum (bad posts/people posting their links) or no monitoring of the forum and people got frustrated and left. On the other hand.......a few good forums have been montized for a great monthly income. Good luck.

If your serious about your site then I would add a forum and I would go via the vbulletin route... Its not cheap but boy is it powerful :-)

forums are hard work but when they work boy do they work :-)

Its not easy starting a forum and with facebook its not always going to work

You're better off building a sizeable list first, then launching a forum.
