Warrior Forum Instant Message Room/System?

I don't think Warrior Forum has it now, unless I am missing it, and it could be useful to have it...

It is that...

Let's say, I can see a Warrior to be "green" (available, online). So I would love to click the green button and be able to send him/her an instant message (like your Skype chat), and be able to thus converse, at least in typing if not on voice.

I know the PM works, and it will continue to work, but the difference between a traditional (existing) PM and this one is like the difference between your email and Skype chat.

So as I said, I don't think Warrior Forum has it now, unless I missed it.

And also, it will make Warrior Forum an even more attractive place - it is anyway very attractive, but just to add more icing on the cake...

Further, it can be a paid feature if server and software maintenance is an issue - one will be able to initiate a conversation only if s/he has paid for it.

What do you think about this, Warriors? Do you think this will be useful?

    With the new types of IM systems that utilize p2p technology for chat and video its definitely doable for sure with no additional server and maintenance fees needed. I cant quite say I agree with it though. To chat with some of the good people here would be great. Of course when you think of... everyone else... it kind of has me a bit worried that you will probably end up getting friend request from everyone and then have them constantly bombard you with spam.

    I just thought "overkill".

    What's wrong with a PM, followed up with a Skype chat where both parties want it.

    Yes, I do NOT want to see a feature like this.

    Can you imagine the extra amount of spam everyone would start getting. The easier you make it to contact members the easier it is for people to spam one another.

    The PM system is perfect. It has a 60 second limit between each message so spammers get sick and tired of having to wait. With your suggestion it would be like Christmas for the spammers.

      I guess I was thinking too much "corporate" (discipline) here - I seem to be the only one so far who wants it... :confused:

      Also, as I said it can be made only a paid feature to initiate conversation (even a subscription payment if needed, and only to initiate, not to receive) and only for Warriors (you need to log in), I thought it would be expensive for random spammers - assuming that one has also the "block/unblock/ignore" kind of facilities.

      It could even be turned into a group conversation room (think of instant master-minding, for example), as I thought of it...

      Well so then, looking at the fact that it does not seem to be a good idea (going by opinion polls, 1 positive and 4 negatives so far), maybe it is worth forgetting about this...

        The problem is even if you made it a paid feature, spammers are still willing to spend money to spam. If the amount of money they can potentially make is insignificant to the amount of money they need to spend, they will still do it. There are still people who join the forum and pay the $10 fee and spam.

        I just don't see this making things any better. If I want to contact someone I know I can PM them. If we want to take it further we can use Skype. I'd rather that than making it easier for people who don't know me to contact me in a chat like fashion.

          Sadly, I am feeling now that you are right. If there was no spammer then instant messages would be lovely to have, but we live in a real world, so...
