Twitterers: Are you reading the tweets of the people you're following?

Hi Warriors,

I'm becoming more familiar with Twitter now, but there's something that I'm itching to ask.

I'm noticing that the main purpose of people for following others, is because they want their "followees" to reciprocate and become their followers. And not because they're interested to read their tweets or personal life details. (or maybe I'm wrong or there are exceptions).

If this is the case, what's the point of following and being followed, if no one will pay much attention to the tweets?

Would be great to hear some comments.

Thanks,
Michael

P.S. I'm inviting my subscribers to follow me. Shall I simply tell them to sign up under my Twitter link?

I follow everyone who follows me and I do read everyone's Tweets. I have everyone grouped into categories of things that I find interesting.. and then one of them I have set aside for "noise". I rarely check "noise" but I do for those with interesting content, and some I read for laughs (like @abevigoda @ericasfish).
I use Tweetdeck to keep everything organized.

I don't understand people who don't follow their followers either.. unless they have literally thousands upon thousands (look at Tony Robbins, how can re possibly read over 300k?) and many of those people reply to their @replies. I like that.

I couldn't possibly read EVERY tweet

But I do spend plenty of time interacting.. it's not a numbers thing, it's a relationship.. a two way street and it works great for me

    Peace

I only follow 227 at the moment and to keep up with them is a nightmare - I did start to upload Tweetdeck but I got all sorts of warnings that I was allowing 'excessive' licence to access my computer.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.

I only read the tweets on my home page. I don't check out everybody else's tweets. Who's got the time anyway? I communicate with those whom I find interesting i.e. tweeting topics/issues that I'm familiar with. And yes, I do reciprocate my followers by following them as well.

I read the tweets of people I'm following and I enjoy talking to them. I don't think I could approach twitter in any other way.

Can't read all tweets by my followers, don't think anyone could. I do check out the profiles of around 10 users that tweet good stuff daily to see if they've come up with anything new though.

I've made it a goal to reply to all @replies so seeing how that works out.

That's always nice. People appreciate that (who doesn't). They'll be more likely to recommend you to others on #followfriday.

Tweetdeck is quite good for that. I create "groups" of those I want to keep up with most. For example, I created a "group" for marketers in my local area... and all of their tweets populate there.

Once you have a big enough following, it gets really tough to read them all. you can use tweet deck to filter just the ones you wanna read.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on this:

I'm inviting my subscribers (perhaps many non-Twitterers) to follow me. Shall I simply tell them to create an account using my Twitter link, and they'll automatically be my followers? Thanks!

I read as many as I possibly can. Great to ask questions too. I've had problems solved in 2 or 3 minutes just by asking.
