Hey everyone,

I've been reading threads here on aggregation and I agree that scraping content (via feeds or screen scraping or whathaveyou) is generally not the way to go for lots of reasons.

However, I look at places like Twitchy.com or even gunbot.net which are, to me at least, aggregators. I'm a developer, so I am very good at parsing feeds and enjoy doing it.

So basically, I'd like to know if you think that all aggregation is dead? If not, what are your favorite examples of legit aggregators?

Thank you in advance!

Moribund, certainly, overall. (And no less fraught with legal issues than what some people are apparently pleased to call "curation").

Aggravation, on the other hand, is alive and well ...

Nice design. And yes, this is what I mean by legit. I see nothing wrong with using publicly available news feeds to create LINKS to content in one place, thoughtfully arranged. I know you prob won't share this with me, but you making money on this??

Yea, not "curation". I mean the kind of thing you can only get with some hardcore programmin' to deliver legit content in a valuable way for both the original content provider and the visitor.

I hear ya, sistah, on aggravation. Alive and well.

What do you mean about hardcore programming?

Aggregation still works like a champ, despite the rumors.

Jobs.com , SimplyHired.com come to mind. They've been around a very long time, they're useful and despite aggregating data from other sites, they're extremely successful.

I have seen other sites aggregating products from diverse online shops... that seems to work pretty good also.

(and I'm sure there are other million examples...)

    Gabriel

PS. Just remembered another one. Oldversion.com (or something like it). It's a website where you can find the older versions of popular software. It's a great website, as newer is not always better.

I got out of all this type of business 2 yrs ago. Was making nice coin on it, but then Mr G unleashed all his panda's and penguins etc and it killed this side of my business overnight
