INTERNET MARKETING

I've started venturing into walk through video blogging and need camtasia alternatives. It doesn't have to be cheaper but it definitely has to have better features if that is possible. Anyone got any leads?

I use imovie + screen flow, I don't need anything else. Check their features page to see everything it can do: Screen Recording and Screencasting Software - ScreenFlow Features - Telestream

Will it work even if I don't have iMovie? I just need something that works like Camtasia but maybe with more features...

Yes, screen flow is a stand alone program, just like iMovie. They provide a ton of tutorial videos to learn how to use it, it's pretty simple to learn, took me about 45min-1hr.

Camstudio.org is free. I picked up a WSO regarding it along with VitualDub.

I like Free Software, Open Source and GPL. CamStudio 2.7 is out and is enough for me to grab videos. Then Avidemux or VirtualDub to editing. Hope this help!

Perhaps give us a list of what features you are looking for?

Camtasia is pretty flexible and complete on it's own. Sometimes it's a matter of creating things in another software program and importing them in.

Otherwise, perhaps there are abilities in the program you are not realizing are there?

Camtasia allows captions as I recall. Also, one can always create a PNG file with a caption on it and overlay it on a track in the video editor.

If you are looking to have an mp4 conversion, there is a sneaky way to do this with youtube. You upload your video and youtube actually converts it to .mp4 where you can download it back.

I use screenflow because I'm on a mac, but I have used Camtasia on PC and as Jill pointed out it's very flexible, so why not give us the features you need and see if Camtasia will do it.

  Adobe Captivate isn't cheap, but it has a much more extensive feature list than Camtasia does.
  
  You might also want to check out the "pro" version of Active Presenter.

  What do you mean "professional" ...and "use on a blog"? If you're uploading to Youtube, then you'll only be embedding the videos anyway.

On the PC, nothing is better than Camtasia. If you are on a Mac, Screenflow definitely is the best.

  Everything is better than camtasia...good god, camtasia is terrible. It has more bugs than planet earth and only about 3 features. I really like how you can cut clips! really though.

  screen-o-matis is $15 for the whole year and it has most the features in compared to camtasia
  
  You can try camtasia for thirty days, if you plan a project and generate some sort of income at the end of the one moth tial period you can pay for camtasia. It is the best in its category.
