I'd probably go for the blog, fire some good backlinks at it and see how well your doing over the next month. Obviously the more related the content, the more you'll pop up.

You could take it another direction where people could submit their photos and make it more of a social / interactive kinda thing but it's up to you.

Yeah, I'm not too sure how big of a deal it really is.

People who are gay in New Zealand will know the laws. Those who are not gay doesn't really concern them. You might get the odd New Zealand boy doing a school project.

I think if you are looking to catch on to a trending topic, gays in New Zealand probably isn't a big one. Besides, I thought they only fooled around with sheep?

Nah look, I think it is a big topic, its about human rights at the end of the day and its been on the news all day so far.

I also know of a Melbourne based company that rakes in millions just from having a site dedicated to weddings, all they do is upload content and sell ads.

Except you would be spending more time on it with adding content to it and trying to rank it.

Best thing to do would either be:

1. resell the domain right now while it's hot.

2. Throw on some cheap content, rank it up, and try to monetize it on the hype traffic and make your money back. Then sell it when the hype starts to fade.

Either way you gotta think about the time vs reward. Personally i'd rather spend my time doing something that has the potential to deliver greater results.

I think you might be thinking short term.

This is something I see often. People get excited about an "idea", then that initial excitement and enthusiasm fades away.

Yeah, as others have mentioned it's the time and effort that will be the main cost to you in getting the site up and running and keeping it updated with new, fresh and unique content.

I think if I was going to be investing all that time I would probably pick a more 'sure thing'. But that's just me. If you think you can make it work then by all means go for it.

Prove us all wrong. Ms Gillard still isn't budging though :-)

Gay people in NZ will be able to get married - that's the law. So people will know about that.
The only thing that I can think of that could be useful is somehow organising marriages for people coming from abroad - particularly Australia, as I suspect that might be where the interest comes from. So maybe how to go about it, white label services to arrange it for your visitors, that sort of thing??

1. Make a blog, first of all with the whole frenzy and recent events.
2. Add content like gay movement all over the world, Popular couples and stuff.
^The blog may be supported by adsense or anything similiar.

3. INVEST SOME TIME AND CASH, AND START A GAY DATING/MATRIMONIAL/HANGOUT Site. Use one of those Open Source "Make your own Social network" scripts, modify it well, get a logo and expand it all over, promote it well, and have an amazing community of your own.
^ This is another aspect of it, term it dating or meet a gay, whatever.

4. After that, ummm make it ad supported, or just sell the site. You'll earn very well.

P.S. I'm homophobic, Sorry if anything I described was offensive. I just gave my views as a fellow marketer

Nowhere. This is at least the 4th thread this year with the same topic: Got a domain, now what? Each time the person has wasted their money chasing an ill-conceived opportunity. Fortunately, domains are cheap.

This is perhaps not the advice you were looking for, but cut your losses in money and time, and force yourself to stop going after shiny objects.

I think you're over simplifying what is involved. But you could just follow an already proven concept and do the same with a subniche wedding site. If a roadmap is already laid out for you to make millions "just" doing a couple things, why not do those same things?

I think that this is a topic that will bring you cash a long time, because it is an evergreen topic. Even if all countries will make it possible for gays to get married, you will still have traffic from actual people trying to find out more about the laws to get married and of course the skeptics..

Interesting. I just had the domain valued at $640 for a purchase of $14.

I have sat down with my developer and talked about options.

Best one we came up with is to sell it!

If I can get more than about $50 for it, it was time well spent for me I think.

I don't think it is a good domain with potential for being resold, but you never know.

If you start a blog, then your blog could catch some attention, not your domain. It is that kind of domain. IMHO.
