Joining Linkshare / CJ

Hey

If you have found a physical product worth promoting that has affiliates on both Linkshare / CJ do you need to build the site for this product before joining these sites.

For example, if I wanted to promote Mr Happys new Jeans and there are stores on linkshare who stock these jeans. Do I need to build an affiliate site for the jeans before i can sign up.

I looked at the application form for both sites (as I am not a member). It asks me for a website etc. My existing websites would not be related to the product above.

Thanks

Kieran

hey Owen, thanks for the reply. What did you enter for your URL when joining up if you didn't have your site setup at the time of applying ...

      Thanks for the info ...

It depends on the particular advertiser. I've seen some that just automatically approve you, but there are also some that require a review of your site to make sure it meets their standards. Obviously, if dealing with the latter, you'll need a site.

Your chances are better of an advertiser accepting you if you have some type of web presence.

Other advertisers may require you actually make a purchase from them before being allowed to promote.

Often, just a Blogger blog is enough. Just so you have a URL.

BTW, if it comes down to a choice, I'd pick Linkshare over CJ. CJ annoys me on a regular basis.

I am annoyed right now with CJ. They deactivated my account. They did this once before and they don't reactivate your account you must sign up all over again with a different email address. Everything else can be the same.

The first time it happened they lead me to believe it was low to no traffic which was possible back then. This time I know I was sending them clicks because I track them.
I can't help it if people don't buy. All I can do it get them to click.

Any way I hadn't logged in for a while but I wanted to verify I was using the right links.
To my surprise they deactivated my account a second time. I don't know for sure when they did it.

What pisses me off is when they deactivate you they don't tell you. So you have their links up and directing traffic to them and your not getting any commission for any of it. It didn't register but the other day I was looking at the click counts and I thought to myself I can't believe I had that many clicks and no sales. Why? Now I know why. I find that dishonest to say the least. I see it as a form of stealing.

Wow didn't know CJ would do that. How long do they give you to drive sales on their network before switching you off ... ?

One more question on Linkshare, when they ask for your Company name. Did you guys register one before signing up ?

I have my own site already but as I said. It's not the one I want to use when signed up. There is a specific company that is on linkshare whose product I want to promote. I am going to put up a specific site for this product but it's not done yet.

You don't need to build the site before signing up to promote a certain company/product. Just a word of caution - when I tried Linkshare, I watched the visitor hit like a hawk and know for a FACT that several people purchased through my site, but Linkshare never gave me the commission and never answered my replies. CJ is actually a pretty good affiliate site - so far they haven't shafted me.
