Ever run into this "twitter" garbage?

I recently joined twitter because lots of people told me it's HOT way to get the word out about whatever you're doing online...

I keep getting contact by various people with a message that says "I'll show you how to get 10,000 followers in 1 week!"

Well, most of these people promoting this, only have about 500 to 1200 followers... if it worked so well, where is their 10,000? LOL. What a load of crap.

The easiest and most effective way to get follows is this: Simply follow lots of people who are interested in the same things as you... and out of curiosity, they usually follow you in return... and their follows follow you, etc.

Seems be working for me... and guess what? IT's FREE LOL

    very true sam... I noticed the same thing on these posts.. most of them have alot less followers than they are promoting. you hit it on the head about following people that are interested in the same things...

    I also use twitterfeed to add 3 or four automatic posts per day with some fresh news or good quotes... these are the 2 that get Retweeted the most..

    Hey its workin for me so far. im at 17000+ :-)

      Forgive me, but i'm new to twitter... so how does a retweet work? And what kind of useful stuff do you recommend that I post a few times a day to get these "retweets".
      I've only been tweeting my way through cyberspace for about 2 days and i'm up to 500 followers... thanks for the help.

        a retweet is when someone sees one of your tweets, and likes it. They may then decide to "retweet" it to their list of followers. If i only have 20 followers and i am in the network marketing industry, then I would find a good quote about success, or personal development, or something else that a network marketer would be interested in.

        Lets say that I then make a tweet of that quote, and "networkmarketingjoe" is one of my 20 followers. he likes that quote and decides that he wants his followers to see it too. So what he does is Retweet my quote and leaves my clickable name in there, and just puts "RT" in front of the post.

        When he does that, your original tweet was sent out to all of his followers as well. If "netowrkmarketingjoe" has 15,000 followers then chances are, some of those people are going to say "hey thats a good quote. I wonder who this justin guy is that originally posted it" and they are likely to be a new follower for me. Since they are following "networkmarketingjoe", they are also probably somewhat interested in network marketing, so they could be a more targeted follow.

        I could do the same thing with fresh news sites, or blog sites that post good new content eveyday.

        Quotes have really worked good for me because every now and then, everyone likes a good quote that they can relate to.

    Here's an example of stuff that I've written that gets retweeted a lot: I'll write a post on my blog with a title like "here's why your press release got rejected" and then tweet that title, with a link to the blog post. Or: "how to get your press release picked up by the mainstream media" or "Here's my list of free press release distribution sites."

    The idea is, write a post that people will find useful, and tweet links to it. But also engage in conversation with people and talk to them on Twitter, don't just blast out links to your site.

    I think the guys you're talking of are perhaps promoting the Twitter Traffic System? with 500 gravity on Click Bank right now....
