I blinked - and there was mobile

Many years ago around 2005 I downloaded a PDF called "Google Cash".

I had never dabbled much in internet marketing or ecommerce at that time as the dot com collapse had put me off.

Well this little PDF book riveted me. I read it over and over for two days - obsessed.

That was it - I spent the next week obsessed and probably researched internet marketing for 50 hours.

I learned all this stuff about keywords, SEO, adwords, rss, blogs, site generator scripts, adsense etc etc

My brain fried - finally after a month of this obsession I learned that "Google Cash" no longer worked - Google had cracked down.

I found a forum where internet marketers hung out - many of them were millionaires.

I was more obsessed than ever & weeks became months - my knowledge amplifying daily.

I built dozens of websites & made a little money - most of what I did failed to make dollars and made only cents.

Well the months became years - I still was not rich.

But by this time I was an "expert" and knew more than anybody at the university about this stuff.

Paypal, ecommerce, mailing lists, social networking - I was on the cutting edge & my internet marketing friends kept me up to date - they were as mad and desperate as I.

All of them & there were many of us.

I discovered many systems & tricks - all based upon emerging technology for making fortunes - hundreds of millions of dollars were being made.

By this stage it was clear...

Several emerging technologies would launch, the early adopters would frantically attempt to monetize by any means fair or foul.

Eventually most of these technologies would flop & within the victor there would be dozens of scams and systems for making ca$h$$$$$$

Of those schemes only a handful would succeed - but their creators would make millions some times literally within days.

I failed & failed & failed. scheme after scheme, promotion after promotion, website after website.

I did not get rich.

Not long ago there were more new things - Facebook, Twitter, Google TV, Google wave, CPA etc all new

Which way to go?

I decided not to give up but to step back & learn to code real good. At that point I could build websites & write sales copy. From electronics I knew C, verilog & a little C++.

I learned PHP, javascript, web 2.0 - then JAVA & C#

I also published a book & got it up to $500 per week plus I had sporadic cheques coming in from adsense and other places.

2-3 years out of the game and now mobile is the KING

Thats all it took and a disruptive technology has made billionaires

So what will it be next - car windscreen holographs, Augmented reality, AGI, robots?

I have absolutely no fricken idea, neither does Ray Kurzweil, Google or anybody else coz we all must fail & bite the dirt on the path to gold.
