What sort of product can I make?

Hi guys,

I'd really like to try to make my own product and then follow the advice in this forum on how to distribute it most effectively to build followers and possibly monetize this in the long run.

The problem is I am stuck at step 0.

It seems like most people make money in the IM or health niches (both of which I know nothing about).

I am a .NET developer and was thinking of using that experience to create a product to add value but I would need some ideas of what to make....

My other interest is dancing or more specifically salsa.

Both of these are kind of weird as it doesn't seem they could be monetized very well. Obviously you can (try to) make the next Facebook, but that's quite a bit harder than writing an eBook on how to lose weight.

Can you help me out? For example what app could I make that would make your lives in IM easier?

    If you hang out in a make money forum, then yes, it certainly seems that way.

    However, "most people" is more of an assumption, probably not a statistic.

    Most people get up and go to work at a boring job, or try to sell crap online just because they think / heard it will sell, not because they love what they are selling.

    The rest of us follow our passions.

    My other interest is dancing or more specifically salsa.
    That's more like it, follow your interests my friend. The world needs more salsa.

      Yeah, go with Salsa.

      You don't have to focus on making a "product" per se.

      Start a YouTube Channel, teach lessons, build a salsa community. Start to develop eBooks/music/sell salsa clothes/whatever.

      Check out this video and watch some of his subsequent videos. I believe they can get your mind on the right path.

        For Salsa dancing, you could create a website or Youtube channel featuring dance steps, lists of dance music, a glossary of Salsa terms etc .

        There are a lot of dance videos on Youtube.

        Find ones you like and write a commentary on them.

        To monetize this you could promote dance shoes as an Amazon or other affiliate, learn to speak Spanish, Salsa dance videos, music and books etc

        ``````````````````````````````
        For programming, look at the scripts and programs that are available, popular and able to be licensed. Then alter them to make them easier to use or add more features.
        Once you have your product, you can search for a joint venture partner. They provide the marketing skills and you do the product support and improvement.
    How about a software that could scrape
    All the local owner details ie their site, fb, email, fax,
    Contacts. Then put it on recurring bills. That's a monthly positive cashflow 4 u.
    Or kindle submitter.
    Complete with templates,
    Graphic, built in keywords and an auto submission to file sharing sites...
    you could create a whole brand around teach people how to salsa. Other warriors have suggested creating a youtube channel also a great idea is this web of salsa tutorial. You could even make a phone app that teaches people how to salsa and has a compilation of the youtube videos that you would have created. You could also create a Clickbank product that has an ebook and video series showing beginners how to salsa the possibilities are endless and my think cap hat is now ON
    If you're any good at .Net development then there a number of applications you could make that would be useful. As a PHP/C++ developer I'm sure you understand I cant just "give you a list" as that list could, potentially, include every computer program known to man. What you need to do is focus a bit (which is seems you're trying to do by bringing up your interest in salsa). But try and cast a wider net possibly? Why did you get into .Net development? Are you a tech junkie? Are there applications you feel as a developer/computer-user are lacking or don't exist but should? (I know I feel this way!). Brainstorm out from there and pin-point down to one idea where the scope of work required isn't ridiculous (years+++ for one person to implement).
    I can tell you that personally when I design software, I design software that I want/need personally. So yes, if it doesn't sell it isn't a huge loss (at least emotionally). Look at what you feel you need/want and go from there. Chances are others want it too.
