Hi
I'm doing some research and would love feedback.
When you were new to internet marketing, or are, at the moment, new, what was/is your main 3 things that are proving to be hard work, when trying to create a blog/site ?
Is it Wordpress ? Or adding banners ? Do you feel that you know what to do, but can't find the information you need ? Do you feel that as an intelligent person, it shouldn't be this tricky ?
I will be creating a sales copy and would also like to use your comments ( with site links, if you want me to)
I would love your comments.....

Getting started at any business is a huge challenge. Same thing applies here in internet marketing too. I struggled to choose the IM sector where I will be working. There are so many options and success stories. Newbies usually gets puzzled. Sometimes they tries too many things together and fails miserably. At the beginning, I became frustrated too. But after that, I chosen the one which I like the most. Now I am getting success.

    1. Installing tracking / Wordpress.

    2. Knowing how much to test things.

    3. Committing to 1 concept.

    Those were my top 3.

Trying to get it to look how I wanted it to without enough tech knowledge to customize things. I'd say that was the most frustrating. I have much better tastes than I could figure out how to produce and didn't have the patience to study that in deth cause I just wanted to be up like last year! I knew I could outsource the design and did though I didn't have much capital, so again I was frustrated and unhappy with the cheap results of it.

So I'd say all these little tech things and no budget.

Still haven't set up tracking. Another headache.

Picking a niche was the first hardest thing to do, but I don't think this answers your question.

Getting wordpress installed was difficult, but what was even more difficult was getting it fixed after it got hacked, and more difficult still was learning how to make it more secure. I am sure people who have been a victim of wordpress and some of its lack in security would pay good money to stop it from happening.

Installing Wordpress to your site, do you mean ? With regard to hacking, if that happens in the early days, it's enough to finish you off !!

It can be. I remember spending a whole week writing non stop to give my site good content. Then a few days after it gets indexed some douche hacks it and I hadn't bothered to backup any of the content! Luckily google cached had enough of it saved to help me get back on my feet. But there really aren't enough guides giving warning about getting your site hacked.

    The structure of the site.

When I built my first site I didn't sit down and think the whole thing out. I was just thinking about getting it online but didn't think through the long term details.

    For example:
In what way am I going to use my tags? Do I want them as just 'tags' or do I NEED to be more creative and name it something different to improve the user experience. Same with categories and how I used each individual page and post. (or include before the days of wp)

General usability is a big one too. I was more focused on making things fancy instead of sitting there staring at the site and trying to put myself in the shoes of a user (or testing it). Simple concepts like putting important items and calls to action 'above the fold' were alien to me at the time so I didn't do it and over the long term it has most likely cost me money.

Now when building a site I think about how it might grow or things I might need to incorporate in the future to make sure it's presented and used how I intend.
