Another question on setting up a site

I have been reading around on the forum before joining. I have seen some stuff pros and cons on free hosting and such. Is it best to just get a domain and hosting right away? Could you test the niche and products first on a blogger or WP free blog first? I totally prefer WP. I have seen good and bad on both issues. Are you going to get hurt if your products and free blog go really good and then you switch over once you know how it will go?

I have seen people doing great with free blogs and hosting then others say you will get nowhere that way. I prefer to have my own but don't really want to spend the money until I know for sure. It is pretty cheap these days. 7 to 10 dollars on an unlimited domain and space by the month plan. Checked out blueHost, HostGator, Godaddy and a few not so well known hosting sites.

Thanks
Scott

    Hi Scott,
It is recommended that you start off on your own domain and hosting. You can get started with both for only a few bucks. The reason you want to be on your own domain and hosting is sometimes your blog can be deleted without warning if you post a link to an affiliate product that the system doesn't like. They may see it as spam and decide to take your site down. You would be left with nothing starting from scratch again. When you run your site on your own domain and hosting, you don't have to worry about those issues.

Who knows? And because you don't know . . . why take a chance? If there is any question at all, why not be safe and get your own hosting from the outset?

There you go. If you can find a reliable host and can put unlimited domains online for $7-$10, I think you have answered your own question.

There is a cost to having a business online. But the cost is so minimal these days, why balk at a few dollars a month for the more prudent alternative.

    Good luck to you,

    Hey Scott,

Sure, if you are serious about making it work, then go for your own hosting.

I am with BlueHost, 3 years upfront is $180 - $60 a year, $5 a month. Oh, and they throw in a free .com as well.

Its a worthwhile investment, I am with the other guys on here - your own hosting, your own rules. Simple. Why be in the hands of a platform that can delete your blog without warning?

    Good luck!

    Hey Scott

I saw that you set your mind and go for hosting, great.

It's relatively cheap and it's YOUR business asset so highly recommended.

Whenever someone ask me for a cheap solution just to start out, the only thing I recommend is to get a domain and point ot to Weebly for free hosting.

You can make a cool site with Weebly and there is no branding at all.

But who can afford a shared hosting account (around 170-180 bucks a year) then it's better to get your own hosting.

If you're in the Internet Marketing niche you can just start here on the Warrior Forum by launching a Warrior Special Offer (WSO). You can test out products and you could start building a list of customers without a website!

I agree with getting a cheap shared hosting plan to start and your own domain name.

I have used Bluehost and Hostgator for hosting and have had good success over the years.

I use Godaddy for my domians.

I remember starting in 1998 with a free host, they turned into a paid host after about 6 months. Either pay or leave was what they offered. You never know what will happen to your "free" domain or hosting if you do not control it.

    Good luck!

Not safely, no. You might get away with it for a little while, but there's not much point. If you're going to be an internet marketer, you're going to need hosting soon enough anyway, and it costs only about $7 per month (for many sites), so it isn't really worth messing about.

If you don't have the $7 per month, then that's a different matter, and there are free hosts like Byethost, 000WebHost and Freehostia where you can start instead, still avoiding the unnecessary risks of Blogger or Wordpress.com, for all these reasons.

Does it really matter? Why would you want to have to move it "if it goes well" anyway?

It's not whether it's free or paid that determines the risk factors and outcomes, Scott: it's whether it's on a Web 2.0-type site or whether you own and control it yourself (which you can do on free hosting, if you need to - just not at Blogger or wordpress.com).

Although I can understand that some newbies may feel the desire to test waters with a Blogger or WordPress.com 'free' hosting alternative, it may become an issue if you get used to it over the long term. You may find that the lake is extremely shallow if you want to get to the bottom of the completely self-sufficient internet marketing experience.

If you have the funds to buy a domain name then finding a modest host for cheap, even at the very epicenter of low-budget should be the least of your worries considering the massive flood of webhosting competition that cut every penny twice just to welcome another customer.

Best of luck in your venture(s).
