How I boast my sales with 800%

I always thought that I was a good sales person, I have the knowledge, I'm enthusiastic and a listener. Still I didn't sell as much as I wanted to.
Yes I visited potential clients, speak with them and sometimes even sold them something. But not as much as I hoped to.

Then one day I met a guy, he did the same as me, he worked as hard as me, visited the same companies and sold a similar product. Well that last one is not completely true, he sold a product that was inferior to my product and did cost twice as much.... But he sold 10x more then that I did. WHY?? What did I do wrong, I didn't understand it.

After one hour of speaking, we changed contacts and we split up, and I had a really nice feeling about the talk. He was a really nice guy, who gives you that positive feeling, he listens and ask you those questions you want to hear. The next day I cold some of my clients and asked if they knew him, they all did and they all bought from him. I asked them why, and they told me: "Because he is such a nice guy. He comes, we talk and when we want him to leave after 1 hour, we just buy something from him." I asked: "Even when you not need it?" Answer: "yes even when we not need it"
I was stunned, how was this possible? So I decided to call him for a meeting. He came, we talked and I got again that nice feeling. And at the end of the talk we made a deal, from now on he would sell my products as well.
Result, I sold 800% more than in the past and I could do what I do best, I went back to R&D, the thing I really like the most.

From that moment on, I did understand, that even when you think you are a born sales person, it not means you really are one. And letting go and focus on what you are really good at, is the most profitable in money and in the way you live your life.

It all boils down to TRUST. They 'liked' the guy. That's why they bought from him. Sales is not just about having a superior product, you have to have content and marketing materials that build TRUST and credibility.

I have read a lot of stories about similar situations.

Whether you market offline or online the same rules apply. Build a relationship and trust with your clients before you make a sales pitch. Provide value and be genuine. It is the best way to secure lifelong clients and that is never going to change.

At the end of the meetings I bet the guy didn't even have to 'close the sale'. It probably just flowed on naturally right?

He has 25 years of door to door sales experience, that might help.

He didn't have to close it, they closed it for him. I remember some quotes.

He is such a nice guy, we can't let him leave without signing a new contract.
When he steps into our company, we know it will cost us money.
