Product Name versus Product Name +

I'm confused. Let's say a product name, small size blue widget gets exact match search volume of 300/month.

I don't know how to explain how I'm confused so I'll explain as best as possible.... I know that small size blue widget gets 300 exact match searches a month. Since this an Amazon affiliate site I'm doing review articles. I've read if you find a product name that meets certain criteria then do product name + review/reviews in this case use small size blue widget reviews. However in the Google Keyword tool there isn't any search volume for small blue widget reviews. Since there isn't any exact match search volume for small blue widget reviews(but there is for small blue widget) how is it possible to eventually get ranked for small blue widget when I am optimized for small blue widget reviews?

First the keyword tool only estimates, and no enough volume does not equal 0 visitors.

For example, I've ranked for terms with about 6 or more words in them. The keyword tool had no data for me, but these same keywords have generated traffic and sales for me.

If you type the keyword into googles search bar and google completes the phrase for you, it means that term does get some traffic.

You could rank for small blue widgets, by titling your content small blue widgets review, because they are related.

Remember all traffic adds up, so if your common sense tells you a keyword is good, use it.

Thanks! I'm taking a free course and this is the process....

small blue widget is the product I want to build a Amazon review site on. It's a best selling and a mover and skaker. The course recommends at least 1,000 searched a month in Google KW Tool and to find a kw phrase that has 1000 searches that is related to small blue widget. So for example I chose small blue widget for kids because small blue widget didn't provide the 1,000 minimum search volume.

The course directs me to put small blue widget for kids n quotes into google. If it's 50K or more with quotes then the course directs me to go to the bottom to where related searches are. The related searches must contain small blue widget for kids . So I pick small blue widget for kids reviews and put in quotes into google and the result is a go.

I'm not there yet but the course says since small blue widget for kids is in small blue widget for kids reviews then I will rank for small blue widgets for kids. This doesn't make sense to me since my site will be optimized I think for small blue widgets for kids reviews NOT small blue widgets for kids. And it doesn't make even more sense that there isn't any search data for small blue widgets for kids reviews.

Just talking out loud here. I'm a nut and bolts type of person and wanted to know how in this example how I could rank for small blue widgets for kids when I think I'll be optimized for small blue widgets for kids reviews where there is NO search volume results.

If the keyword tool shows no data for a keyword/phrase what would be a reason to go after it?

In general you should get searches from a variety of keywords.

In addition, have you considered asking the person you purchased the course from for clarification. If they are providing a quality product they should back it up.

It's a free course so there isn't any correspondence. The person just says do product name + review/reviews and you're set. I want see what the possible potential is on a given keyword. Example a kw method that I see is optimize for the home page. Use google kw tool. As an example best blue widget reviews I KNOW has 2,000 searches a month. So in this case I'm not concerned about product name reviews because there is data about traffic to my home page.

With this course it's different cause I'm not concerned about traffic to home page but product reviews; product name + review. However there isn't any data to tell me I'll get some traffic to product + review but the person says this works and he shows a case study site.

Ok I was evaluating the case study site wrong. He is taking very specific product names with model numbers + review/reviews. What's happening here is the very specified product name/ model numbers don't get much exact match search volume. Some get 200, some get 50. But I guess when you add up all the exact match volume it adds up to maybe 2,000 searches/month total.

            Make sense?
