So, I now published my book on Kindle!

Hey guys!

I took the leap and did it! I published my first book on Kindle over the weekend. It's a $2.99 guide on how to get resolutions from companies that don't deliver on warranties or that provide poor customer service.

Now, I just have some questions that maybe we can all learn from:

1. How can I maximize sales? I thought about creating a FaceBook fan page.
2. What other platforms would it make sense for me to launch it on?
3. Any other tips/tricks that any of you would suggest?

Thanks!

  • Congratulations. I admire anyone who puts in the work and takes the leap.

Now, generally, for Kindle books, I would say market on Goodreads and Shelfari, especially fiction books. They are two communities of book lovers and strive on recommendations. Getting involves with groups on these sites that are related to your niche/topic and their owners can often pay off big time. But, as your book is a how-to book, I'd definetely hit up forums and Q'n'A sites about warranties or customer service. For Kindle, the more reviews the better, so I'd highly reccommend giving it away to a few people for free in return for a review. If your book is good, it will get some great reviews and possibly some word-of-mouth recommendations.

Well done on publishing your first book

You should definitely create a Facebook fan page, and also a Twitter account to try and spread the word about your book. It may also be a good idea to sign up to various book and authors forums and promote on there.

Hey there, definitely social media can give a boost to sales. I actually have a book on how to use social media for book sales that I will be publishing this week. It can be very effective if used correctly.

      Congrats on the book!

I have done this and even had a FAN page and likes to get extra traffic and sales.

Social media is good for this, especially if you are in a certain type of niche, maybe dating or something that is more to do with social stuff, or you can put a spin on your ads to make it stand out for the larger younger audience on facebook.

Don't just tell people about your book on FB/Twitter. No one cares.

Ask people to share their own horror stories. People love to do this.

Pick one periodically and give a specific answer on how to handle it, then tell them the info came from your book.

A long list of horror stories also gives you some social proof that the problem is everywhere. It's up to you to convince them your book is the solution.

Your topic is also tailor made for media releases, especially if you can collect some case studies of people who have used your advice to resolve their issues. You plugging a new book isn't news unless you happen to be James Patterson or Tom Brokaw or somebody of that stature.

You spotlighting ordinary people who fought back and won is news, or at least interesting content, where you can slip in a subtle promo.

Congrats! You could have some book reviews done and put them with your book on Amazon, put up a You Tube video, blog about it, put the book on Pintrest and of course Tweet about it. Also, remember to do some FB PPC using your target audience.

Have fun with it! I wish you success galore!

    Hi Jeremy:
I saw your advice and it was -
Get Reviewed By High-Profile Book Bloggers.

OK this is good advice, but they are drowning in good books now.
First get some reviews from friends, then get some sales.

Well, now you can go after bloggers that are medium size. Then push your book using free book sales and other tactics to get a lot of exposure. Finally, you get into the "HOT NEW RELEASES" section from amazon.

OK so now go after bloggers with big names.

Embed some links into your book to inspire backend sales. All sales made by Kindle, they keep the customer info and you dont get access to them. So Amazon will backend sell to these people and make a killing in the process. Good luck tho and congrats.

Well done for getting your first book published!

It is quite a unique subject, and 'how to' books work well with YouTube promotion. Make a short video (or get someone on Fiverr to do it) that offers a few tips to getting better customer service, mention your book at the end, upload to YouTube with title and keywords relevant to your book, and link to your book in the description.

    I hope that helps!

    Jeremy,
Now that you have your book up on the Kindle, it's HUSTLE time!!!

You'll need to market and promote your book via a blog, social media, giveaways, an optin list, and other promotions etc. Don't make the mistake that 99% of authors make...which is publishing their book and hoping for the best.

Put yourself in the 1% and build an author brand and implement some solid promotion and marketing funnels behind it all.

  • Twitter is a huge for customer service. You should join Amazon's affiliate program and then promote your book. Go to bitly and get a short link.

I would target people who are complaining on twitter and send them a message like:

@soandso Just saw your post and went through something similar. I wrote a book on what I learned and it might be useful to you: bitly.com/yourbook

    Hope this helps!

Way to go Jeremy - your topic just oozes publicity, seems to me you want to create the ultimate platform for people to vent...should be all about interaction as this will draw a crowd and give you the traffic, attention, captive audience you need.

    Here are some suggestions...

    1. Setup a YouTube Channel dedicated to people sharing their stories about being mistreated
    2. Setup a discussion forum - same thing, allow people to share their stories, separate it into sub-categories like "Overcharged", "Not Accepting Returns", "Bad Service", etc...
    3. Start a blog and post daily about experiences - these could be stories in the press that you talk about, your own stories, publish other people's experiences, etc...
    4. I would even look at paid advertising - there have been many times I've been seething after being poorly dealt with by a company and just wished it was easy to find a way to vent publicly so the widest # of people would see.

From these venues you can drive them into a sales funnel where you give some content for incentive and then expose them to your ebook.

Get some quick reviews to your book. Find friends or associates and offer to buy them a review copy, so that you have 5 or more good reviews.

Then use your KDP free days, make sure that you find a good list of places to post your free days at, you can get a free list here: Kindle Free Days | Income Now.

Use your social media, people that you interact with will want to know that you published a book.

There are a number of author groups on facebook, you may be able to exchange reviews with people there.

Fill out your Amazon Author page, get on Goodreads, create your facebook fan page. Those will all help.

    1. Look up a very popular book in the same niche as yours, one that's selling like hotcakes on Amazon.

    2. Advertise that popular book inside yours (at the beginning and the end.) Make it easier to the reader by linking to that book's sales page.

    3. *IF* enough readers actually buy the book you recommend, theoretically, your book could eventually be displayed within the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" section for the popular book. As a result, your sales should increase for as long as that other book remains popular.

Since I haven't personally tried this (yet), you might also want to experiment with a semi-popular book instead (as opposed to a hugely popular one) and see if your book shows up a lot easier this way.

Other notes: Perhaps enrolling your book into KDP Select would be a good idea to accomplish this specific goal. Otherwise, place your book permanently free by first publishing it elsewhere for free (B&N, etc etc etc.) The idea being that as long as it's free (whether you use KDP Select or the other method) more people would grab it and (hopefully) buy your recommended book in the process.

    Good luck.

Congrats on launching your first book, the hard part is done! I would definitely recommend setting up a Facebook page. Try set up other social media accounts as well. You could even pay people to buy and rate the book, which will help boost sales. Use forums in the books area as well to drive traffic to the book.

Congrats on the leap of faith. Takes a lot to do that.

I'm good with YouTube marketing so I would suggest figuring out what your target market is looking for in Google and get a video ranked on the first page for it.

Maybe a video with you speaking on:

    1. The pain that people in their position deal with
    2. Why your book will be the solution for them
    3. Some testimonials or proof that you know your stuff
    4. Make them SEE the end result. (Ex. After you will never have to ____ and be able to spend more time with your family)

    Jeremy,
I also publish books on Kindle, and I've been quite successful on Kindle (with non-fiction so far, but I'm currently having my first fiction novel written) I will tell you what I have learned from the past two years of Kindle publishing. From what I've read so far on this thread there are lots of people telling you to build a social presence; sorry but that doesn't work!
Can social media explode your sales? Absolutely, so why am I saying it doesn't work? You are writing non-fiction, and something to fix a very specific problem. Unfortunately, not very many people share these kinds of books with their friends on Facebook, and creating a Facebook page and Twitter page is NOT the way to go. Try to get some good reviews by giving out free copies, and more than anything else, get a killer description written that sells the reader and a beautiful cover done.
From my 2 years of experience and many thousands of dollars in non-fiction book sales on Kindle, this is what I can offer you for advice. Your cover is truly the difference between a $10,000 book and a $100 book in terms of sales, and there are tons of places where you can get one done cheaply. One thing to try is looking over on Fiverr, I know, not the most professional place to go, but you can find some gems there (my bestselling guide currently uses a five dollar cover from Fiverr).
Make sure to click sort by High Rating when you're on Fiverr searching for cover design and check through their samples to see what kind of covers they're designing. As for descriptions, you can find copywriters on this forum, on Fiverr, or just write it yourself. For descriptions I would also recommend using HTML (so you can make headings, subheadings, bold text, italicize etc. etc.) but don't overdo it (here's a useful link to learn how to use HTML in your descriptions on Kindle from this forum http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ook-sales.html).
That's it for now, and good luck with your books! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll try to get back to you ASAP.
    Good luck,
    Alex.

I agree with almost everything you said, but I think in this case, the OP may do well with social media.

People LOVE to complain. And the book is about dealing poor customer service. I think the OP would benefit from having a Facebook fan page or Twitter account or some other platform that would allow them to express their "horror stories" with bad customer service and warranty issues.

Congrats on your book. Hit up redflagdeals and other deal type forums where people love to complain about bad service, start threads in those forums sharing some of the book, give them a coupon code for a discount and then allow the community to contribute to the book so they feel ownership. Then ask them to support the book by purchasing a copy
