For you newbies out there, here some advise from a another Newbie.
I've been doing some affiliate marketing for ClickBank for a few months now and wasn't getting very much results. I'm from Ohio and of course we hear about the Cavaliers and Lebron James.
So here's what I did: I went to Clickbank Marketplace and found a betting affiliate. I put together a WordPress Blog about NBA stuff, I checked the Sport News and put together a Campaign along with Keywords that applied to the NBA Teams in the playoffs... Well in less then 3 days I had over 13,000 impressions and 179 clicks!

So the next time you're reading the paper or watching the news think about what you can put together that could drive visitors to your site.

PS. Did you know that I bought a bunch of domain names 2 years before the 2008 elections? You'll be amazed at how much people will spend on a domain that costs 10 dollars. Such as www(dot)voteforobama(dot)com

It's also a good idea to watch Google's hot trends daily too, if you're into it.

I've used the exact technique to drive 1,000 visitors in less than 7 days to my blog 2 years ago..Unfortunately I was stupid for not putting ADSENSE or aff links to monetize it..Fortunately for me I added a FREE traffic counter code to track the visitors.
(Hey that was my 1st blog )

    Here's what I did:
1)Choose the most controversial issue that was ROCKING my country (checked out the Internet,Online NEWS,TV and NEWSPAPERS for more info about the issue)
2)Created a FREE blog and wrote my sincere but NEUTRAL(no support or hatred) comments on the issue
3)Joined appropriate groups at Yahoo Groups and Copy Pasted the same stuff with a link to my blog..
4)Made an announcement about my new blog to a list of 4,00 local friends at Friendster.com

    That's it..> 1,000 visitors in < 7 days...

P/S:My blog was banned for 2 days because Blogger.com suspected me of SPAMMING because of sudden increase of traffic to my new blog.So It's 1,000 visitors in 5 days actually.I have to email the support staff to remove the ban.I suggest you to use other free sites if you're planning to use my technique..

PP/S:Yahoo Groups generated the most traffic to my blog. The key is to choose the most suitable groups with the right target market

Im thinking of following your betting affiliate program. However, the only sports event I like is Wrestling. Do you think that there is betting in WWE? I know that this is not a genuine sports but more like an opera or drama, but still its a sports and mind you, WWE has more fans than any sports events in the US

      John,
Just remember that any hobby/sport/interest/club has a membership/fan/group of diehards. Research everything you can about a given topic and target those customers. I don't know much about wrestling so I don't think I could make a successful splash page about it without a lot of research. But you do, so go ahead and give it a shot after you check it out.
Back to your question: Isn't there a lot of betting going on in the stands? Surley it's also online, if not now maybe in the near future.

    John,

The point is not what you like. It's what they like. You find a crowd hungry for information on a subject, no matter how distantly related it may be, and you offer info to them.

Of course, you need to be sure you include a a logical link between their subject and whatever you want them to buy or opt-in for.

    Hope this helps.

Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,
    Charles

Thanks for your advice Charles and runfast, when I made that post it made me realized my first mistake in IM- to do things my own way and based on what I like. This is a big mistake, we should start on what most people like, and work on more specific niche along that trend.

    Good day
