Fitness Marketing and eCommerce

I'm starting a fitness website that sells products (possibly drop shipping), as well as informative articles, affiliate links as well as links to social media. Is there anyone out there that can give me some advise on how else I can make money on the site? How are fitness gurus profiting.

My niche is going to be men who want increase muscle mass while working a busy 9-5 schedule.

Is drop shipping and dealing with wholesale supplements a waste of time?

To answer your first question, fitness gurus that are making loads of money are selling themselves (their image) and their proven experience in the field. These guys make money from the top and bottom - most supplement companies have big pockets and that's what they spend their money on. Then add workout routines and meal plans and you have a health empire.

More realistically, though, you'll probably find the only ways (aside from being a professional bodybuilder) in would be to create your own supplement and I think that actually answer your second question. I would say yeah, drop shipping is probably a waste of time. The likely hood that you will find a cheap enough price and be able to sell the volume to make a decent profit without something already established is pretty low.

Going the 'make your own supplement' way at least ensures that your profit margins are so high that the low volume of sales will still end positively for you. You still will find it difficult to out advertise or market however - I suppose this is where you have to step in and actually make it happen.

Thanks for your input. I thought about creating a product or supplement, but the startup capital is very high I'm sure.

This site wouldn't be my bread and butter, just a way to create some extra cash on the side.

I'm not familiar with ecommerce/dropshipping and I know that supplement companies usually give a small percentage on affiliate sales (5-15%).

What I do know for sure is that the Fitness gurus that own info-products and sell them through Clickbank are making A LOT of money, and they also give 50-75% commisions per sale.

See guys like Kyle Leon, Vince del Monte, John Barban, Mike Westerdal, Charles Livingston etc.

How about choosing the best clickbank products in fitness niche (on basis of popularity)? Will it be a good idea. A question to fitness gurus again.

One thing I would not do and that is combine ecommerce/dropshipping with affiliate marketing on the same site. If you have a customer that wants to buy a product you sell, they put it in the shopping cart and continue shopping, they see an affiliate product that they also want so they click on it and now they are gone from your site, same thing in reverse.

I would do 2 sites one for ecommerce/dropshipping and one for affiliate products. Both with great articles and information. also do extensive linking from site to site
