1. Include your keyword in the title.
This is pretty much essential if you
want to get your article ranked
anywhere near the top in Google.

2. Include some numbers like I did
in this thread title! You clicked on
it, right? Tell them how many
steps to take, etc... Tell them how
long it could take to see results.

3. Let them know what to expect.
I told you I'd provide 3 steps to
write an article title in under 60 seconds.

        I have doubts about the 60 second time limit as well, but you can certainly do it very fast.

        The system outlined by the OP is effective. You may not need numbers in the article, but it usually doesn't hurt. For me the main thing about outlining points (numbered or not) in an article is to speed up the writing proces. If you have 10 points it's just sooo easy to go back and write one or two paragraphs for each of them.

          I think the point being made is:

          The article itself, will obviously take longer. But, unless you can get your article read, then you're fighting a losing battle.

      Has anyone ever tested the difference from titles like "subject- how to do subject better" (two times for specific keyword) versus "how do to blank in 3 easy steps" (one keyword instance in title)...

      I'm using the first but it seems silly. I heard Google likes it but I'm by no means an expert on search engines.

        One way to write an effective
        headline is with the 4 U's formula.

        Urgent - Is there any urgency in your headline? Deadline?

        " Its Predicted in 2008 That..."

        Unique - Is it creative? Or is it one of those tired hyped up headlines that lack any creativity or uniqueness?

        Ultra Specific - Like the headline of the title

        "4 Ways To Make $278 A Day Or More, Everyday, Working 1 Hour Daily Starting Right Now."

        Useful        - can help

        If you can't come up with a good headline- just put "how to" in front of it and it should work well. People always want to know how to do something. It also satisfies the last one, Useful.

        You should rate the headline using 1-5(5 best) and should be strong in at least 3 of the categories.

          Warning A Awesome Article Writing Tip Follows:

          Writing Article titles is something that is sometimes a lot easier then writing the article.

          The 2 stage of creating a title
          1. Think of a Title then write the article about subject
          2. Write about subject then think of title.
          • I usually do the later and this is how I do it.
          • I write an article and save it in html format
          • I put it in a test folder and upload it to my server.
          • I check it for keyword density with various programs
          • I will usually look at the top 5 and figure out random logical titles that make sense. ( I will test some with the numbers idea, I have put numbers in before , but never for the reasons given here. I just did because it made sense to do.)
          • Now sometimes if I can create multiple logical ways for the title I will just alter the order of the paragraphs to fit the title and post those on various blogs or on other article directories depending on the niche.
          Anyone have any other ideas?

      I try to write at least 300 words for a single article at a minimum. I usually don't go over 400. 250 seems to be the standard minimum.

      You don't want your readers to get bored and close the article, you want them to quickly read then click through to your landing page, blog, website, etc...

    Just wanted to add that being as specific as you can in all aspects of your title can help a lot! Use that long tail keyword. Tell your readers exactly how long the outcome will take to achieve. Tell them exactly the number of steps or tips there are in the article they're about to read.

    I guess this kind of goes along with step #2 of my original post. I just wanted to reiterate the importance of it.
