What kind of Lead Magnet did you start our with?

I'm committing an internet marketing sin by currently not having a lead magnet on my blog. This is due to a sick case of perfectionism, procrastination, and just generally not knowing exactly what to offer.

I was curious what you guys started out with as far as your lead magnet is concerned. Was it a spread out 7-10 day video course? A simple ebook? An audio or two?

Did you offer something simple or a full blown product? How did it work out for you?

    A simple report would work

If you've got any product that's spread out over the course of a few days that'll probably increase your open rates. People will be looking for part 1, 2, 3, etc..

That also warms them up, gets them used to opening your mail, and when you start throwing offers and supplemental materials at them, you'll probably have a better conversion rate.

    I prefer video tho!

It is very possible to decide of your head on the choice of the lead magnet and present it in an pdf or video format but the question is will it truly attract the leads. It can only attract leads if it perfectly fits and meets the need of your visitors. The lead magnet can work if it is irresistible.

Here is how to create an irresistible lead magnet

You need to discover the type of visitors you want to attract your lead magnet with.

What are your visitors looking for on you site. What is it that attracted them. The search terms with which they landed on your site. What is their need. This will enable you create a lead magnet that is perfect for your visitors need and if done right, the rate of subscription will be mind blowing.

What is the main discussion point on your site. What is it that attracts a lot of buzz on your site.

Are you making sales currently on the site. If no, what do you think is responsible for that and what can you do to encourage them in buying from you.

Although, this is difficult but possible. Try to engage with your visitors. Create contents that increases interaction and when you are able to gain their attention by having them respond when you make a post, you can actually carryout a survey to identify their needs and the package in which they prefer the solution to that need.

In creating a survey, you can present about 3 or 4 options and ask then to decide which is of more interest to them. The item with the largest percentage will definitely be the one that requires more attention.

This is just the way of creating stellar lead magnets that perfectly fits the need of your site visitor.

    Hope this helps

      ...
      Exactly.

So if you've noticed, it's actually a process. The main advantage is that, if you do this right, you can use this info to create stronger content. Eventually, you'll discover a message that cuts through the noise - and that's what will take your business to the next level.

    It really depends on:
    • how much money you want to make
    • how much money you're willing to invest
    • how sophisticated your market is

    Do free reports still work?

The days of a free report are somewhat gone. Now, it still works but it has to be supported by stronger marketing. Of course, if you find a niche that doesn't have many strong marketers in, a free report will still get you in.

    However...

Do not be fooled! If you truly want to succeed, your biggest asset will be endorsement by other successful marketers. In other words, people WON'T CARE about your report if they don't feel some kind of trust already.

    So what's the solution?

Honestly, you've got to ask yourself a better question. Which is "How do I establish a presence in my market so that people are open and eager to star a business relationship with me."

    Simply put...

If you want to succeed today, your lead magnet is NOT just one thing. It has to be a "system of different things" that come together, and attract people to you.

Don't offer something free. Offer a solution. Or offer Half the solution. Make the 2nd half a small $7-17 offer. Just put it up already man. Go for it

For me, a simple "free report" always suffices (though I don't call it that), but I always make quite sure that it serves all the specific purposes mentioned here, otherwise it's (a) a hugely wasted opportunity, and (b) the biggest single factor that leads to lower open-rates than I want.

I'm assuming you're kidding here, but in case what I said is misunderstood...

What I mean is, there was a time, all you needed to enter and succeed in a market was to put up a free report, collect the emails, sell your $27 ebook, and you'd make money.

Today, a free report is just not enough to sustain a business. That's all I'm saying. Without a system to support it, you won't go far.

It's like email - remember when 20% open rate was a bad day. Email still works today, but it's not as simple as before.

Or even WSOs, once you could make a few thousand just by putting one up.Now, without affiliates it's hard to sell 20 copies.

So there, that's what I meant.

I think my very first email bribe was a video showing a particular subject. Can't remember now...lol That was like 4 years ago. Simplicity works really well. Just be yourself and offer value.

it depends on what your site is about, it has to be in line with what your offering on your site because that is what they are looking for... it goes without saying that your offer or "bribe" to get the visitors on your list has to be of the highest quality and value that you can find or create.
and use a floating pop-over form on your site instead of just an optin form on the side, this will increase optins dramatically.
and the most important thing is to create a killer funnel, which they will enter as soon as they optin, a very informative and engaging funnel to keep your open rates high, and do your very best to offer your subscribers real value everyday, they will love you, and your list is the most important asset of your business...
what the initial bribe is for getting them on your list should be something they really "feel" they "need" strongly, that it will be the 1 thing solving their problems, and then do every thing you can to make that true

  • I start with this question:

"In in relation to what I'm offering what can I offer for free that would be of the most value to them?"

I dont do it anymore (i still do on my homepage), but i used to have an aweber signup box on the right side of my blog - in conjunction with a hover ad. I scrapped both, because i just wanted my reader to focus on the content and information on my blog - instead 101 sales offers. I do enough of it in my blog posts, and on every page of my blog. But depending on your blog design and niche, you can score greatly with an opt-in form on your blog... offering a free ebook or something. Just test it and see how it goes.

You don't even need a report, if you're blog content is awesome a simple "Get Updated When I Post New Content" is more than enough.

The trick is to give a people a way to connect with you, be that email or social media.

It also helps to see that you have some regular comments and that the design of your site is clear and simple. If I want to join your list then make it easy for me, hence top right of sidebar is usually a good place to start.
