Lightbulb New to Internet Marketing - avoid these beginner's mistakes (add your mistakes)

Want to make money online? Read this first!

Let's help new warriors by sharing our experience; By telling them of our mistakes/successes in the attempt to make money online.

1. Don't Buy "Get Rich Fast Products"
- "Secret loopholes", "push button software" and "get rich overnight schemes" do not exist.

2. Information Overload

- Concentrate your energy on one product in one sub-niche instead of buying multiple products.

3. Keyword Research
- Be sure to choose a keyword by exact matches (not broad).
- Be sure the competition is low or medium.
- Be sure it is a profitable buyer keyword.
- Pick a domain with the keyword inside (high SEO factor).

4. SEO
- Quality over quantity; A few high PR backlinks are better than hundreds of low quality backlinks.

5. IM Digital Products
- Some products can be achieved cheaper when trying to exit the offer.

6. Reviews
- Before buying any product, a wise decision would be to check out the product review on Warrior Forum.

Don't buy anything until you have figured out a complete plan including niche, product and sales funnel.

Other wise you will end up spending $x,xxx on stuff you never use

Remove distractions and focus. Don't allow other new products/methods/services get in the way of your original path. Expand upon what you have built later after you have achieved your initial goals.

Too many niches too early on. Choose one niche and dominate it. Use your learned strategies to dominate other niches once you feel your niche is too easy or you get too comfortable.

This is good advice but when you are completely new how do you know what plan to follow? You do need to do some research on the different types of businesses that can be operated from the internet.

And sometimes that will entail buying stuff to learn about these different types of businesses. You just need to do your due diligence when thinking about purchasing any product. Is the seller trustworthy? Do they have good reviews? Always do a search for any seller you intend to buy from as this will give you a better picture of the type of person they are.

Of course you can get the information for free by searching for it but that isn't always the best use of your time. If someone has already compiled the information you need then spending a few dollars to get it can be more beneficial than spending the time sifting through dozens or sometimes hundreds of websites to compile the same information.

In the end it is best if you have a basic idea of what you want to do before spending any money. Reading for free here on the forum is a good way to get a feel for that.

3. Keyword Research

- Be sure the competition is low or medium.
- Be sure it is a profitable buyer keyword.
- Pick a domain with the keyword inside (high SEO factor).

You ony need to worry about low to medium competition if you are following certain business models, e.g. spotting a particular keyword to rank highly for.

With other models, you *want* high competition, because high competition means high demand, and it's the demand you want!

You can get loads of traffic without a single search engine visitor, so don't get too obsessed with SEO.
Cheers,
Gordon

When people experienced failure they see it negatively. You just don't know how important failure is.

My biggest mistake was being overly dependent on Google's serp and being too focusing on ranking. If you have a good product or service and practice general marketing and branding you will be much better off in the long run. You'll naturally rank well, but you also will not be under Google's direct control nor be enitrely dependent on their search results. Ranking high in search engines certainly can make you a lot of money, but it is something that you do not directly control and if your entire operation is build on the serp position of a few keywords you have a serious problem. SEO is a fraction of Internet Marketing, not the whole. Video marketing, social media, paid advertisement and many other methods are great and very effective methods of generating traffic. Everything you do to promote your business online is "marketing."

If I had to go back and start all over again I would say that it is crucial to get with a mentor who knows what the heck they are doing and can show you the ropes. It's hard in the beginning when you're overwhelmed and don't have a focus necessary to succeed because you're following every single person who promises they can make you the big bucks fast. The quicker you can see results the more confidence you'll have that making an income online is a real possibility. A mentor with a system that works is key!

My biggest problem was getting side tracked by other things and never actually seeing one method through. Try to find one area of IM and stick to it until it works and don't get side tracked by bright shiny objects.

1 - Get away from losers and those with low expectations
2 - Realize the value in List Building
3 - Locate programs that pay immediately
4 - Complete 1 project at a time.

As far as Get Rich products I would say buy buy buy. It's all a learning process and you will learn reading the copy what people want.

SEO - Stick to the more traditional methods first, blogging, social marketing, article writing, word of mouth, forum marketing, etc, also hit some of the newer social networks like Google+ and LinkedIn.

As far as buying products and services to sell or use. Roll with the Gurus who give you a well rounded education. As far as reviews take them lightly most reviews are often done by friends, folks who have idolized the seller for awhile, and those who got free copies of the products.

There's a lot of things to consider concerning a review. If they review the free product most likely they are a veteran so products and concepts may be easier for them to grasp. Some think it's ok to have to go in and edit php files after paying 100 bucks, I Don't, I think its shoddy programming. I'm still waiting on these guys to show me where these fb plugins are bringing in paying customers. Sure you can get people from fb to your site, but are they paying customers, show me the numbers and then I will buy. Oh, thinking of wso's would someone pm the guy that doesn't know the difference between mrr and plr that's selling articles so he can stop wasting his money lol.

Hey newbee321,

You could always, put a signature link back to your landing page
on your forum profile..

Set up some tracking on it,
then test a few different signature versions,
find the one that is generating the most clicks..

Then take your link and join other forums,
post "value" comments in the forums on posts that
are getting a lot of traffic..

Hope that helps Ya some..

All of the post I have read are key factors remember if you have a website blog or just a link keep building a pond it until it fits your niche focus on the task keep records of everything you do it is a business your running.
Do! keep your email clean.
Don't! sign up for every product you come across.
Do! check your work on everything.
Don't lose track of the all that you have done.
Do! test the market
Don't let the market test you.

Hi,

looks like some great advice there. I notice that you suggest using "exact" instead of "broad" for key word searches. Do you have an opinion on whether or not using "phrase" as a match type is ok to use these days too?

Thanks for the tips
Patrick

Let me give you an example...

Keyword "dog training" has:

24000 in broad match
10000 in phrase match
8800 in exact match

If Jay writes "dog training" he will hopefully see your site as the #1 spot.

If Jay writes "dog training for dummies" it's a phrase match, but Google will probably choose another site than yours, if somebody is targeting "dog training for dummies" exact match.

I know it's possibly to rank lots of related keywords, but if the competition is medium or high, those phrase match keywords will be hard to rank for; You need to mention them in your articles and also do some SEO (with the keyword phrases as anchor text).

Imagine Kristian buys the domain "dogtrainingfordummies.com", names the title of the site "Dog Training For Dummies", mention it two times in the meta description and afterwards creates some good backlinks to his site with the keyword as achor text. This keyword phrase can only be outranked if your site has high authority in Googles eyes like Wikepedia or something..

I know the above is not the case everytime, I just want you to know how it works. It's hundred times wiser to target an exact keyword as you can laser target the SEO. I always only use "exact match".

Pretty much everything in the list above. I am trying to stay focused on list building but now getting into the High Traffic Academy hype. Ran my first campaign on Adknowledged for $50.00 and didn't make a dime. I had 938 clicks and not one sale. I did everything according to the instructor's directions.

Gain knowledge through experience, not by reading everything there is about internet marketing and keeping it in your head. Start creating content immediately, even if you know nothing about SEO or how to rank your content. Get in the habit of providing good, quality content that provides value to readers... even if you're the only reader for awhile
