Is Personal Development Important??

i stare at them ..and stare at them ..grunt.. and go back to reading .. when i was reading the personal development stuff

they us to say "you are not getting rich stop reading about getting rich "

though i am still broke ..i refuse to say poor i say broke the words you use create your reality ..poor is a way of life.. broke is a fixable condition"

read a lot and not just about making more money ..we are here in tese physical bodies to learn and grow ..

You are right - personal development is not a scam - we could all do with some advice/direction/support - some people more than others.

While there are many genuine people online and offline - providing this some, particularly onliners, while offering 'real' assistance - are ripping off with the prices they charge and others, unfortunately are charging high prices for useless crap.

Keep up your good work with those young adults - they are lucky to have access to someone like you

I don't think you have to explain yourself to anyone.

If you are reading something and someone makes a comment, just casually look up with a bored look and say, "Did you say something?"

There is no shortage of people with tall poppy syndrome. Ignore them.

the first thing you need to develop though is not goal .. but your bull shit detector .. i stopped reading the persona dev books when after they talked about goal setting and their personal story.. the go into talking about what they do in the personal seminar that you can get discounts on a couple tickets to if you buy the book ..

I'm gonna have to disagree with the second part of that quote. A person who believes in something without proof is a sheep, period. But I agree with the first part.

As for the topic at hand: I've had people say that to me. I really can't blame them when you look at all the BS floating around in the personal development market. Then you also have to consider that people were getting rich before this industry existed (even though they were using the same principles). That's why you stay away from "personal development" and study universal law.

What is proof? A person who believes in something may have an inner feeling of being right about it and this all the proof they need.

If everyone believed that it was foolish to believe in something that didn't yet exist we wouldn't have ANY of the inventions that we enjoy and take for granted on a daily basis. Kinda like the computers we are using right now...
If you don't believe something will work out why would you put forth any effort? You wouldn't! If you don't put forth any effort, you won't get any results. Obvious, I know. But then you have falsely confirmed your self-limiting belief and will continue to lack any faith and never put forth the effort necessary to accomplish anything. Vicious cycle of doubt, fear, worry and NO ACTION! If you can believe in something, that it is worthwhile, that you are capable of accomplishing it, then you will take MASSIVE action and tap WAY MORE potential which will increase your probability of success dramatically!

BELIEF --> MASSIVE ACTION + MORE POTENTIAL --> RESULT ---> ENHANCED CONFIDENCE AND EVEN MORE BELIEF!

Personal development is a really risky thing to spend your time on. If you're not careful, it can lead you to a path of reading books, watching videos and pondering the nature of your subconscious... without getting anywhere.

Just FEELING a lot better about yourself is meaningless without actually achieving stuff. And you can achieve your goals without spending a minute of your life listening to PD gurus. The catch is that decisive, focused action changes your mind way more powerfully than "working on yourself" and thinking nice thoughts.

If you're poor, that's perfectly fine. Say it, own it, accept it... your current condition is a part of you. By not acknowledging it, you may be sending your subconscious mind the signal that you're poor and ashamed of it. So accept your current state of "not-having" and commit your entire being to real work that will lead to achieving the state of "having".

And once you achieve tangible, measurable goals, you'll find out your state of mind is changing accordingly. You will have developed an understanding of your inner self in the process of making lots of painful errors that cost you time and money. All that without any conscious personal development.

So the only thing you really need is how to DO the next step. To paraphrase Mother Theresa:

"For the non-doer no amount of proof is enough, for the doer none is necessary."

Personal development is essential for success and happiness.
If you don't grow and only your so call business and bank account grows
then you won't be happy.

Also it's not about how many or how much of the materials you study
but how much you can learn, absorb and implement in your own life.
But learning and reading more can also help if it's not making you addicted to
the idea that you have to listen to or read or watch such stuffs and get your hands
on the new ones. You keep studying and studying and your awareness and knowledge
increases and finally you break through your old usual beliefs.

It's never a waste of time or money!

Buying in to self help information and material is often regarded as a waste because the BEST information out there is the free one, and even then, self help is about taking the initiative to better yourself.

You can read a thousand books on learning how to be happier/improve your dating life/lose weight, but if you don't start smiling more/being outgoing/stop eating excessive calories, its always going to be for nothing.

Brian, you raise a very good point and that is that personal development in of itself is not the goal. It just helps you see and get to the goal, and that cannot be done except with the use of one of the most critical factors of all: Taking Action

It depends on how you look on things and what you do about it. "Personal development" won't happen if you don't put your back in it. And the speakers can be very helpfull , but they may also be completely useless

Well, if you are NOT taking action on what you learn... then STOP it.

Please don't misunderstand this... don't clutter your head with information. Find a couple of good books (say 3-7) and "study" them. Take notes, consume the information very well. And then TAKE ACTION. Don't be personal-development junkie. Few books are enough.

Taking action, achieving small (or big) successes, overcoming your fears... this will give you ALL the motivation you need.

To make it short...
be selective, study a couple of good books, then take action. Find a good mentor or support group to hold you accountable.

Period.
