What to Do when you Reailze the Internet Marketing Dream can be Boring as HELL

I know it is easy to get caught in all the hype and romanticizing about Internet Marketing. And sitting up all giddy and listening to people and how they can make a bunch of money from their home on their Computer. Gosh, it gets you going doesn't it ?

But one problem that I find Newbies have is getting too wrapped up in this Romanticism of the 'Dream '. All the enthusiasm and the initial novelty and the adrenaline that is present well it will wear off. But too much of it can have long term adverse effects.l

There is one technique I use that is efficient and productive in addressing this.

Here is a scenario. You go to Warrior Forum and you get involved in a Thread that talks about making 10K a month by working 30 hours a week. You see this guy who does it and you start getting excited and start talking to your friends and family how you are going to do it.

At this time, the World seems incredibly exciting as you have your Plan and your 'yucking' it up'
and cannot wait to get your Dream a rolling

...then, oh no, you actually have to turn on your Computer and start doing WORK. And many times it can be extremely boring and tedious WORK. Sometimes it seems like so many problems occur during the midst of going for your 'Dream ' , you just want to give up.

You ask yourself, " where is all the excitement I had when I first found about this idea" ?

Well, the fact is EVERYONE who is successful goes thru these doldrums.

The best way I found to combat this is to close your eyes for a second and actually Visualize (when you are in the doldrums) of what it will be like when you are 'yucking' it up with your family and friends of how you ARE making that 10K and how Life is so exciting after putting in the sweat

Just picture yourself doing that periodically when you feel the tedious part of the job getting you down.

For me at least, when I practice these mental exercises it gives me the motivation and momentum to push forward and get done what I need to finish .

Many times , I will pick out a Happy occasion in my Life. Example , like when I go back home to my native Tennessee for Summer break and we start talking to visiting with my Aunts and Uncles .. Well, they are successful in business including Real Estate so I always look forward in telling them of my own Successes.

When Iam working , I will actually pause for a second and Visualize these positive conversations I'm having with them.

So pick a happy place for you and do this . It can help

discrat, I may be off a little in the head but I actually enjoy doing this IM stuff. For some people or most, it is boring. zzz

But the boring redundant stuff pays off.

We are all driven to do one thing...

    AVOID PAIN!

For guys like you and I, there would be more pain in our life is we didn't succeed. For others, maybe it is less painful to fail than to succeed.

The only reason why someone would come into IM and quit after realizing that there is work involved is because it's less painful to quit & 'stay' where they are in life.

      Yes. Nice point

Of course, I think Visualization can also help some people in most any situation. Not just boredom. Like if your Computer crashes or the PDF file you deleted without saving. There is stuff that happens beyond our control to EVERYONE that can be construed as a struggle, headache, boring etc..etc..

And techniques like this have helped me some in the past

I systematically outsource the boring stuff, find software that does it, or find a way to make it exciting. But you're spot on with the visualization exercise.

I call it an exercise, because whether it's physical or mental the more you do it -- the better it works.

I systematically removed the "boring" parts.

The main reason I moved away from SEO was because it had become such a simple science that it was mind-numbing.

I've found I can make more money just doing the stuff I enjoy. Fortunately, I really like almost everything connected with IM.

For me Robert, I set freeing goals. Sure I get a bit less high energy but living in places like Fiji, Bali and Costa Rica, for months at a time, has made my life kind of interesting Fine tune that driver folks and intend to free yourself and your audience through IM and you'll never really lack for a driver. Things will be interesting, fun and exciting most of the time, and if they do become boring for months at a time or even for days, prosper online to free you. That freeing emotion is just oh so powerful, and it's why I've been Blogging from Paradise for the past 45 months straight.

    Thanks for sharing!

Same with studying... I love being able to do something, but hesitate to learn it. Work and study both need momentum...

    Hi Robert,

Good points. I get a bit discouraged at times but I don't
    find it boring.

I can't help it..........I do love it so. I have been at it
quite some time with minimal income. I know I will
make it if I keep at it.

I guess I should feel it tedious at times but I don't.

Tedious is my job as a Mortgage Loan Officer.
    Drowning in regulations and paperwork.

discrat, I have to agree with you, sir.

People don't always realize in this electronic, "get it in the blink of an eye" age, that you still have to have a work ethic and a great deal of determination to be successful online.

In most cases, you will have to face some of your fears, at least to some degree, to have the results you want. The good news is we can all learn to do that.

I think many people do realize this, but it still comes as a shock to some. The same work ethic you apply to any other job has to be applied to working online too, at least until you get past the learning curve.

And yes, as long as we keep our focus on where we want to be, and not on what we are struggling with, then our confidence level stays higher. That desire has to burn a little bit to get there.

Besides, reaching successful milestones doesn't mean as much if it's easy.

Good post. These thoughts and simple facts have to be expressed from time to time. That's why this forum exists. To help people get better.

Agree. Like any other job or business. IM requires you to do lots of boring and painful tasks. Sometimes even without guarantee of making a profit.

But it's part of the game. Always keep your goal in mind and remember that you are moving towards it. Also, it gets better with time. Once you start making some good money you can then outsource the boring stuff...

Successful people do all the things unsuccessful people don’t want to do!

    Cheers,

    C.G.

This reminds me of the Mundanity of Excellence, a little read I had back in high school.

It examined the lives of Olympic athletes who made a diligent routine out of hitting their workouts early morning, and being self disciplined enough to work throughout the day sacrificing fun for work. In this case being excellent at what you do becomes the norm, or mundane due to how simple it becomes for you.

Whenever my business flourishes i always feel an initial surge of happiness/achievement, then i plan out the next phase of attack to prevent comfort at this stage.

One of my bad habits is not outsourcing a lot of the tedious work in my business. I don't know why i don't delegate it out, but i don't and when I'm doing that tedious work i tend to have more frequent reflections of how boring my work really is.

I now consider this occasional boredom to be the price for being excellent at what you do.

Meditation and music are also extremely helpful in bringing me back into my zone. When the mundanity of a particular task feels like it outweighs the long term rewards resetting myself by feeling present, here and now tends to act as the reset button for my internal drive and focus.

Hey! Great thread... another thing I'd like to add is NLP or conditioning your mind and body to react in a certain way when presented with certain things...

For example, I hate writing.. but when ever I sit down and write a blog post or a thread on a forum or an ebook... I make a conscious effort to associate that with making money and seeing money roll into my Paypal account... this gets my gears going and I get energized and my body language starts to change...

Now, everytime I site down to write these feelings automatically start coming to me and it makes it easier and easier for me to write..
