Taking Responsibility

One of the most important concepts that I have learned is
that of taking responsibility for everything that happens to
me. (For me, that was particularly difficult as I've been
through many "challenges.")

Even though taking responsibility may be difficult at first,
it's ultimately very rewarding. Unfortunately many people
give away their "power" and blame their lack of results and
success on something outside of themselves. I suppose it's
easier to do that.

However as W. Clement Stone said:
"When you take 100%
responsibility for everything that happens to you, you
can create, re-create, and un-create anything at will."

The fact is that Entrepreneurs, and exceptionally successful
people for the most part all take responsibility for their results
in life …

"But it's not my fault that ______ happened," you may be
thinking.

And you're right, many things that have happened to you aren't
your fault. This isn't about assigning blame, it's about realizing
that you're in control of everything that happens to you. And
when you decide to take 100% responsibility, you will be
empowered and significantly closer to everything you want to
accomplish.

If you think you haven't been doing this, consider writing down
the following statement and putting it somewhere you will see it:

"I take 100% responsibility for everything that happens to
me."
(And then start doing it.)

    True.

We tend to play the blame game to often. Making excuses and blaming the government, our environment, finance, health, friends, family for not having our goals.

You need to understand that you are the reason why you are not achieving your goals. You are the one being lazy and not taking action. You are your greatest enemy.

Grow up. Stop the blame. Take responsibility. Take action!

    Cheers,

I think that a lot of people associate taking responsibility with blame and shame when it's actually a very empowering and uplifting thing to do.

I'm not sure where the negative association came from maybe it comes from some childhood trauma or something. It wasn't until I started to take responsibility for my life that things began to change for the better.

People need to realize that taking responsibility is taking back their personal power and that blaming is giving that power away.

Good point Doug. That's exactly what happened to me when I first learned about this concept from Jack Canfield.

Ultimately, like you said, it's very empowering and uplifting. And a slightly different way of looking at it (that may be helpful for people confusing it with blame) is that a person doesn't necessarily have to take responsibility FOR what happens but OF what happens. (In other words to make the best of a bad situation.)

Success more often than not is beyond our control.

You must be lucky to pull any successful business stunt (time and location) and the mindset that goes toe to toe with success.

The buck stops here does not mean you have to beat yourself up over it. Or even allow others to blame you and beat you up over it. It has come to mean that because of the complex relationship between communication, leadership, and communication.

Responsibility is saying you will take care of it.
Then you can do something about it.

the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone.
    Or
the opportunity or ability to act independently and make decisions without authorization.

Good leadership helps others to feel better about it until you do.
