Advice on How to Start an Online Business?

Just curious as I'm new to the forums and my ideas are all over the place as to where I should start or what I should be focusing on. I've been working the general 9 to 5 jobs and I'm just sick and tired of the time wasted just to make ends meet. I've been battling with my own decisions about how and why I should just quit my day job and start a business of my own. I get the same old lectures and put-downs that I shouldn't get my hopes up because I'll never make it running my own business and that I should just settle for my basic 9 to 5 grind and die that way. Unfulfilled, unhappy broke and lacking the financial stability I need to take care of my life and my family. I'm sick of hearing it, so I want to take my first steps to prove to myself that I have what it takes to run my own business and accomplish my goals.

I've done an extensive amount of research on how to make my first sales and JVs and such, but I feel like I'm at a stand still as to how to keep the ball rolling. My first accomplishment was back in 2011 when I was able to cash in on a deal to sell cellphone in bulk to a private retail company in California for about $14k in 2 days. It was the best feeling I had making that deal and really doing something I was good at. Since then, I've only run into failure and I haven't been able to regain that achievement and I would like to get it back. What really felt amazing was looking at my account and seeing the numbers flow in like crazy.

So I was wondering, if anyone had any advice or insight on some techniques or how to go about starting an online business and gearing up for Automated Sales and Income. Maybe some challenges that I may face or barriers that I may have to resolve before taking on this challenge. My end goal is to have fun making and running my own business, take care of my family more financially, and to provide a service that might benefit other people out there that are in need.

P.S.: If this post is in the wrong topic, I apologize in advanced as I'm new to Warrior Forums.

Thanks Everyone!

Hey J, this is a question that bothers a lot of people. So first of all for starting your own online business you need to find the niche you want to focus on, which is not as easy as it may sound. When you figure out what is the right niche for you, then it's time to find and buy a domain name and also to find hosting for your website. There are thousands of web hostings out there, some are cheap and some are more expensive. Of course, there is a bunch of free online website builders you can use that don't require hosting (I personally had experience with ucraft.com and would definitely recommend it). This is good if you are not experienced in web design and web development, because these website builders have simple "drag and drop" systems.

Ok, the next step is to attract customers. You have a product, but you are new and no one has heard of you yet. What you need are social network profiles, this is essential. You want to communicate with your visitors (audience or customers) and also to show them that you exist. Manage your social media presence effectively. There is also SEO (search engine optimization), which is a whole nother strategy for attracting visitors, and also more complex (linkbuilding, link exchange, guest blogging, infographic outreach, etc...)
When you attract your visitors, it is even more important to retain them. There are a lot of tactics for this that depend on the industry you are focused on (newsletters, sign up forms, etc...)

Ok, you've done all the hard work, now it's time to make some cash. The best way to do this is adsense. Here's a short explanation "AdSense is one of the most convenient ways to make additional money from your website. All you do is copy some code into your site to display the ads, and you earn every time someone clicks."

Hope this helps, i wish you the best of luck! Update us on how it turned out.

Starting an online business, it's a good idea today if you know how to raise people's interest - if not, you can learn. Affiliate marketing is a good way to start and you can go from there. However, you will need to learn how to create great content and how to get people's attention.
Don't get discouraged if things don't go your way from the first try. Learn from your mistakes and try again until you're happy with the outcome.

The two qualities that you must have to start an online business is 'Patience' & 'Persistence'!

Once you dive into this ocean on online business, you'll get tons of ideas and options. But you need to get the basics right. For example. Choosing your niche, having your website/ landing page; having your own product or product(s) to promote; & generating traffic.

The traffic generation part is the most challenging and you must be prepared to experiment a lot and even burn some of your cash.

You also need to take advice from people who are experienced and successful in online business. You need to keep learning and upgrading your knowledge and skills.

Doing all this, one fine day you'll find $s rolling into your account!

  • Hi Jrobertson!

That was insightful, considering that a lot of people are stuck up in their 9-5 jobs. You want to start a business, that is good. Internet marketing is a good one to pursue but the question is, are you willing to put the extra effort to make it successful?

Results don't usually come out that fast especially if you are building a site or promoting a product, don't expect immediate results. But the good thing is, once the income starts coming, you can't help but get better at it in time.

Being an affiliate is a good way to start esp if you don't have any idea. Here are some tips to get you started:

    1. Be an affiliate and signup to a 3rd party tool like Clickbank or JVZoo
    2. Build a site or a landing page which can capture the emails of your audiences
    3. Give away a free product (ebook etc) as a lead magnet for audiences to acquire after they sign up
    4. Build a blog related to the niche you are promoting
    5. Create social media accounts and promote on them too.

These is just one way of earning online. I suggest don't quit your day job yet, as this internet business needs time to mature, results don't come off that fast.

    Wish you the best,
    UST

Focus first on what you are going to offer then all else will follow. Keep improving your product. Innovation is the key. Next is to focus on the promotion and creating a good marketing strategy.

    Hey Jrobertson!

My first advice to you is don't quit your day job yet before you become successful in your own business, you are going to need some funds to invest in your business if you want it to grow faster and since you have sold physical products before and made a good profit and enjoyed it, i would suggest that you go into selling physical products on Amazon or ebay for starters. Your first pot of call is to find a good course or coach that will help you to do this.

I know of a good course that i am using if you need one.
