Kids ask the craziest questions!
Hope you're having an awesome day and I just wanted to share this with you real quick........
My nephews have been out of school the past few days (teacher work days), and they asked me yesterday "Why is it that you're always reading books and studying like you're in school and you're so old?"
After telling them that you're never too old to learn, it had the wheels in my head turning once again.
The fact is that too many people regard learning as an event instead of a process. Did you know only 1/3 of all adults read an entire book after their last graduation? Why would that be? Because they view education as a period of life, not a way of life!
The conversation reminded me of a book I recently read written by Julio Melara titled "It Takes Everything You've Got: Lessons for a life of success", in which he shared some things he learned early in his life that he has been able to carry with him into adulthood:
"Here's a list of all the jobs you will not find on my resume but lessons learned that have lasted a lifetime:

- Dishwasher at a local resturant. Lesson learned: Somebody has to do the job no-one else wants to do. Also, most people have a lot of food on their plates. (They don't finish what they start)
- A janitor at an office building. Lesson learned: The importance of cleanliness as it relates to image.
- Fry and prep cook. Lesson learned: The importance of preparation and the impact of the right presentation.
- Construction helping hand (lug wood and supplies from one place to another. Lesson learned: I do not want to do this for the rest of my life!"
Every stage in life presents lessons to be learned. We can choose to be teachable and continue to learn them, or we can be closed minded and stop growing. The decision is yours!
