How to Motivate Yourself and Others

Hi everybody..
Have you ever heard the story of a carrot and stick?
If not, let me tell you brief. Imagine you've just won the race. While at the podium, as the prize you are required to choose between carrots and sticks, about which one you choose?

According to the story, for those of you who chose carrots, describe if your motivation comes from having fun are encouraged. Fun can mean you get the money, rewards, bonuses, commissions, or that essentially bring comfort.

And for those of you who choose to stick to show that motivation in you tend to arise because driven by fear. This means that you'll be more excited if you're like a shadow of fear like the fear of falling poverty, fear of being bitten by a dog so you can jump over high fences, and many other fears. In essence you are more motivated to avoid the things you do not want to happen to you.

Whatever the source and type of motivating yourself, you must recognize it. This is important because by knowing what the trigger your motivation, you know how to awaken your inner motivations.

Example say you are more motivated to get pleasure, then you can put a picture your dream luxury home on the wall near the bed for example. Meanwhile, for those of you who are more motivated because of fear, maybe you can put pictures ramshackle house that did not want to occupy. Every time you look at the picture, believe me you will be eager to do what you should do. Feeling lazy will depart from you.

So what if you want to motivate others?

The principle is really the same. First, identify the source of motivation that person. And then provide a motivation as the type of motivation to lift his spirits. Suppose a friend who you want to give motivation is the type to pursue pleasure, then such motivation with success stories.

And otherwise if your partner is the type of person who is more motivated by fear, you can convey the appropriate motivation. That way they will be more motivated by what you say. The result will make them even more excited.

But clearly, whatever the motivation approach that you do, there's no right or wrong. The only way that we can communicate better with yourself and those around us.

Ok,already know how to motivate yourself and others?

Regards,

Irvan

Great sharing Irvan. Thank you for taking time to motivate others.

It's true at times we will feel demotivated. Even the most cheerful person will have their own bad days.

The most important thing is to stay positive and look challenges from different perspective.

The world will be a better place when we sincerely help each other.

Nice... I also do the same things like you. And sometimes I open and read a book of my account bank and imagine a huge amount of money.

At the same time some people are so motivated by having a relaxed leisure filled life it is that exact goal that does them in....in the end. They did not sustain the momentum they just started relaxing and partying.

Then the ones who are driven by fear may go to their coffin never really living the life they dreamed at all.
      I agree with you...

I motivate myself through positive thoughts. I start with imagining myself with all my dreams, wants and likes in my possession. Then I commit into my mindset that I will get them. As I go through my daily activities, I constantly think of whether my actions would help me achieve my goals or not.

"Obstacle are what you see, when you've lost sight of your goal !"

If you have a strong, compelling VISION of what you want to achieve, and have titanium strong REASONS for wanting to achieve it, you will be motivated to the moon and back. You will NEVER lack motivation if you have the two.

On the flip side, I don't think there is anybody who can achieve anything with a vision of the proverbial "stick". You can be mildly motivated.. for a while, but I think fear, in the long run, will cause you to self-sabotage.

feel free to prove me wrong...

For motivation there should be risk because failure and bouncing back are elements of motivation. Failure is a learning tool which have great role in the achievement of goal. No one has ever succeeded at anything without a kicking of failures

I have friends and mentors to which I am very grateful because they coach me, in good times and in bad times, whenever I ask for help.

That is one of the main reasons why I am here on WF. To contribute and to ask for help and receive it.

If one has the resources/people and the intention to, one could ask for coaching every single day, through phone, email or in person for a certain period of time. Let's say a week or even a month. To talk to someone or write it down every single day, what is driving you? what's going well? what's going bad? what's the next action?

Having your mentor to talk to every week Friday 5pm and being accountable for what you've done and how you are, can be a great motivator. It may be motivated partly by the carrot, maybe more often by the stick. But it can be a driving force in our daily actions.

I write 10 goals per day. Learned this idea from Brian Tracy. Then I try to visualize the success in those goals.
