Maybe Aikido or Tai Chi classes... they are usually taught face to face... not solely by book or on tape. Good luck.

I agree with Michael from my experience yo can not learn self discipline just from reading.
I have been practicing Aikido for over 18 years and it's one of the best ways to acquire self discipline.

Is Aikido also good for fitness?

I am going to get into a martial art but want one that is good for both self defense and fitness.

        Cheers

I'm not sure about recommending a self-discipline course for you. If I were you, I would rather browse here some threads in this section and read them. This is one of the reasons that I'm having self-discipline to work some of my stuff.

No self discipline probably means you have no focus in life or idea about where you want to go or whether you want to achieve anything? Don't know whether that's the case? I would suggest some excellent books - already mentioned - particularly Anthony Robins - Awaken the Giant Within is brilliant.

Maybe just take some time to set some goals and follow through on them?

easy skill to talk about, hard to teach. Martial arts would be a good place to start, but maybe your issue isn't self discipline but more time management or lack of motivation?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[5731957].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author Daystar11
Yes sometimes the issue is really time management, and motivation problems. Structure and a positive routine can work wonders, starting with some physical activity every day- can be as simple as walking, or as complex as advanced sports and the martial arts. The main thing is consistency. Pick something you like, and stick with it. I find that doing some physical activity first can really kick start your day, and then naturally flow into the work at hand.

As mentioned above, the OP needs to be more specific in my opinion.

What area of self discipline are they interested in?

Is it time management? Will power? etc.

Being more specific will allow those here to be of greater help (there have been some awesome suggestions in the posts above).

Well, some years ago, I started looking online for some yoga lessons and learned a bit.
But if you want to learn more, you might want to take lessons from an experienced instructor. You can't learn yoga just from watching videos though it might be a good start.
I have been practicing yoga for 3 years now. It's one of the best ways to strenghten your willpower. And a great way to improve your health!
Usually, I practice every day - beginning with the yoga sun salutation

Question! What area of self discipline are you talking about? business, personal, physical, If it just happens to be sticking with something until it happens or getting distracted, I personally make it a mission, kinda like going on a survival trip.
