Thank The Universe Unconditionally And The Universe Will Thank You Back

I could not resist posting this experience of mine on this forum. It is too good to be true, and yet it is as true as anything.

This has got nothing to do with my IM career. Those who know me well enough, they also know that I am part-time into IM while my partner Sudeshna is full-time. And they further know that I work as a researcher in a research lab that researches computers/IT/software, biology, physics, math etc. I have a Computer Science background and hence I work on researching on computers/IT/software.

My previous employment was into software development. I wanted to be in research, so came into this lab after leaving my previous employer. That was back in May 2007 - sharp 5 years back.

I spent the first quarter-to-four years doing my job well, quite well, but not attempting to lead anything serious apart from some program ownerships. I would normally follow what my team was doing, and generate ideas and work processes within that framework.

And then, back in 2011, in February, I had an reason to look back and think, "Was my goal to be in a research lab, or was it to transform the world?"

I realized, when I had joined, my goal was not about joing a research lab. My real goal was to transform the way that things work towards betterment and at the same time enjoy myself. Research for me was the means to the goal but not the actual goal.

So I started spending additional time on pursuing my own ideas. I started following my heart with my brain rather than following my team and the so-called leaders. I started following my real passion.

I just said to my lab, in my mind (not loudly and not to a person), "Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be here. I was to follow my heart and my passion with my brains the best that I can. I was to change the universe and mankind in the way that I best can, with my contributions, to a road that will give them opportunities to live better, stronger and easier."

And I set out to materialize them. I kept 1 hour, 10-00 AM to 11-00 AM, almost every morning unless there was an unaviodable meeting or something of some sort, to meet this goal. With my IM commitments and my usual work in my day job, that's all that I could afford. It took me 3 months - 2011 May - to reach this stage.

What happened since then is nothing short of almost a miracle. I have generated and led a ton of ideas. Without disclosing numbers, say if I had n technology patents afte rmy 4th year, now I have exactly 2n - so in one year the proven intellectual productivity has been the same (n) as my first 4 years - and there are n more in the pipeline already that ought to happen over the next 6-8 months (in the most conservative scenario) and there are n-2 more in the pipeline that are close to it. I am in the process of writing m research papers for the work done this one year, which is just one less than what I wrote (m+1) in those 4 years. And with those technology patents in the pipeline, there are more research papers also to come.

I think there are a few transformational technologies that I proposed within that. Some of them will hit the world and one in particular will change the world if my day-job organization produces it as a product. It probably will. It has invested a few million dollars into it. And trust me, there will be discussions around it a few years down the line on this forum also, because all of you, without a single exception, will be affected by it if it goes through. It will take a few years to go through (and the patent application is also being prepared but yet to be filed) - however, it will ease all of the guys of WF (including me) away from a massive problem that I cannot disclose now but shall be able to disclose in a few years if it goes through. Maybe 2015-16? Don't know yet. But it's got a potential impact that's serious.

There's another one, again patent application yet to go through, that will also change every single offline business that IM'ers work with, and that also will be for the betterment for IM'ers. Again, cannot disclose now, but if my day-job company decides to pursue it (this is less mature as of now compared to the other one) then that's going to transform the world.

In addition, I have enjoyed my day-job more because of this. In 2012, my organization realized the value of what I am doing and unlike 2011, I now have much more time than that tiny 1 hour that I can devote to it.

But look at the real gist of it.

Saying "thank you, please let me help you my dear world with the best of my passion and material" unconditionally has helped change my life in a way that will make me feel happy forever whenever I shall think back about this period. I now am thanked by the Universe by letting me do what I want to do. And unless something changes, this is going to continue for some time - I think till November 2013, when I shall look back and there's a good chance that I shall voluntarily retire from this stuff (or I may not, shall decide then).

I believe you will lead a great life also if you thank the world unconditionally for what it has given you and then try to do the best that you can do. If nothing, it will lead you to an emotion that is priceless. Happiness matters - and nothing like following your heart and being accepted, giving and receiving affection and obtaining achievement that can make you happy.

Thank you.

    Very good read, thank you!

Personally, every morning when I open my eyes I say 'thank you' 3 times, thanking the Existence for my existence on this planet. From millions of probabilities of me not existing, here I am, existing!

Thank you again for this wonderful read!

Awesome share Fred, your post is very intriguing but even beyond that, it's the theme of showing gratitude to the universe and opening yourself up to creativity that is very touching.

I truly believe we were all sent here with the anchor of the universe built into us..we all have the ability to contribute something..leave our legacy when we depart. Unfortunately, some people choose something negative but I believe the majority of us are here to leave a positive impact on the world.

And you're right, it's thanking the universe for the smallest things..waking up each day, having all your organs, being able to breathe, enjoying running water, electricity, etc. etc. allows you to be more consciously aware of the ideas, opportunities, potential that surrounds all of us.

Love it! I'm actually starting a gratitude journal to keep track of every thing (big and small) in my life that I'm grateful for! Thanks for the great share!

I came across this awesome quote:

"What if you gave someone a gift, and they neglected to thank you for it - would you be likely to give them another? Life is the same way. In order to attract more of the blessings that life has to offer, you must truly appreciate
what you already have." - Ralph Marston
In other words, if you are ungrateful to the universe, don't be surprised if you 'receive less'. On the flipside, if you are grateful, then the universe will be happy to give more for you to be grateful for!

I have been following this thread to the best that I can (grandfather passed away on 25th May, have been mostly away and busy with Hindu religious acts because he was a Hindu, and I am in a small town in India now where my grandfather lived - so on a connection as slow as a dial-up) - and while I haven't responded to any individual post I must say I am thankful, happy and inspired to hear the voices of so many great minds.

Great quotes, great observations and great comments. We human beings live for happiness, and nothing like mental fulfilment that can make us happy.

    Wow..that was beautiful Fred

It reminds me of something Eckhart Tolle said in one if his books. "Instead of asking 'what do I want from life?,' a more powerful question is, "what does life want from me?"

We just have to remember to be grateful for every opportunity we have, and have trust in the universe.

Good luck to you Fred for all your future endeavors
