I've been away from WF for 4 years - because of an accident. I've begun to recover somewhat but I'm still in intense pain - and pain medication makes me loopy.

Anyone here have a similar problem?

How do you get anything done while in serious pain? Brain and body aren't really working these days.

I used to be a successful marketer. I miss it.

Grateful for any help.

Thanks to all.

The fact that you are here now, is progress. Keep at it. Soon the pain will be gone and you will be back to normal. Sometimes it requires super human effort conquer ourselves and our pains. But if we intend to live a full life, we must do the impossible sometimes.

Forget everything what happened in the past, just think of now. You said you are recovering, think it's your new life, be positive and set your golas now.

    • In all due respect for your condition, I would be amiss if I did not recommend to you the questioning of your thoughts concerning the accident and the painfully long recovery you are witnessing as you go through it.

The premiss of questioning the thoughts you hold as true reporters of your condition may seem almost simple minded, but I have seen too many people who practice such inquiry changed inside out over the practice.

You see, our thoughts continue to get away with murder in us because they are simply accepted, taken in and made to feel at home. When in reality many many of these so called thoughts, "beliefs", are impersonators. Their job is to trick you into ever greater misery.

Personally, I have found the "Work of Byron Katie" to be the quickest and easiest way to free one's self of the misery and suffering attached to assumptional thinking. When you go to the following site you will find help doing what are called "Work Sheets". The object becomes: Write it down. (your gripe) Ask Four Questions. Turn It Around. You will be utterly amazed how much help you will receive by one of their facillators on the site to help you do this "Work".

The Work of Byron Katie :: Homepage

I sincerely wish for your full recovery out of physical and emotional pain. Do give "the work" a try. You have nothing to loose and I give it my highest ethical endorsement. The very best of luck to you in your search for relief.

It's clear that what you've been through is really hard but the fact that you are recovering, it goes to show that you are a strong person. Stay positive and keep moving forward. You will be back in your both feet sooner that you expected. I have read somewhere that to prevent from losing your self-esteem, you have to overcome the feelings of helplessness. Never think that you can no longer do what you used to be good at. Best of luck to you, mate!

Pat i am so confused with previous answers that i feel like i am in the twigh (?) light zone. You question is about your pain and the daily nuances of dealing with it while still trying to function and prosper in IM. My suggestin is to see if you can #1 switch meds, &, look into integrative holistic treatments to help pain management. Google that magnetic device to see if that might work for you. Also, some kind of accupressure treatment maybe of help. #2 Can you train or outsource your previous successes? If so, maybe you can use software(like dragon naturally speaking) to create products. Just do a little bit at a time before you get loopy. There is a famous writer who has chronic fatigue syndrome & this is how she wrote her best seller. She managed her time in increments.
Unfortunately, it is easy to give advice when you arent the one doing the suffering. I wish you success. Hope someone chime in who has direct experience with managing pain and meds.
    All tye best.
