The mother lied, then the process server lied (probably committing perjury in the "process"), and this guy is expected to pay?

Classic bureaucratic intransigence. The process server should do jail time and the judge should be thrown off the bench.

I agree. I also think that he should sue them both snotless. (Judge and server). She sounds like a whack job raging feminist.

How a judge can look at negative DNA results and still proceed with this is beyond my comprehension.

The answer is very simple! The reason for nonsense can be uncovered in one word, "America".

I agree that I could give it to you in one word, but it isn't America. America used to be better.

HECK, they had a court case and bound a guy to a ruling that he was NEVER informed about and could never attend? If he owed the IRS, you could BET they would hunt him down.

Try more like 'It's Michigan'....the same state that made people caring for their elderly parents join a union and pay dues to said union.

They also thought it was absolutely innovative to make car companies pay auto workers not to work.

Not the best ideas for sure.

        Wait...

        WHAT?

Please tell me you're kidding, or that it was just proposed by some nutball?

I wish I could say that I couldn't believe it, but many such groups HAVE tried to unionize, and unions HAVE tried to make it illegal to join an industry without unionizing. People make a big deal about "right to work" states, but it is really simply a "right to work" WITHOUT JOINING A UNION!

So I don't know if the Michigan deal is legit, but it HAS been proposed elsewhere and COULD be legit!

Just my luck! There is a CITY named UNION, a UNION PIER and a UNION LAKE in michigan, and ALL have senior care!

BTW MOST advanced(in age and/or need) senior care in the US is HORRIBLE, at least from what I have seen and heard! The LAST thing it needs is job protection at all costs (Which is what unions generally end up doing). People should get the jobs based on MERIT! To all those that disagree, consider that YOU and/or your loved ones may some day need it.

I've heard of similar things happening. If the father treats the child as his own, he is expected to pay as if it were even if it later is proven NOT to be. Of course THAT doesn't sound like THIS deal.

Process servers are aggressive, and probably get paid to do the job. Frankly, I wouldn't trust their words. In THIS day, I would insist that they get a signature AND wear a cap with a camera to validate things. Back then, maybe have a recorder and a witness if possible. They WILL lie! It is safer, and may not ever be discovered. BESIDES, the server is just a procedural technicality. They should have sent him a letter ANYWAY! It IS his constitutional RIGHT!

As for the welfare? If I were him, I would send them a summary of the court case, and other things, like a note that I was in prison for a time, and say it was a THIRD PARTY committing welfare fraud. AGAIN, you do NOT go after the "parties", but the RECIPIENTS!!!! They should have gone after the mother that filed the paperwork. They gave HER the money they are asking to be paid BACK!

A good example of why our 'justice' system is anything but, sometimes.

More attention is paid to the rules - when you have to file this, how you have to file that, yada yada - than the actual process of justice.

Yet another reason to trust your government implicitly, right?

Let's put this into perspective! A boy is born. His mother gets him an insurance policy. HEY, a LOT of people do because the insurance companies are RIFE with such fraud! The boy ends up growing up into an adult. AGAIN, MOST DO!

LATER, he marries a woman, and SHE manages to become the beneficiary, through her OWN actions. HEY, it happens! She divorces the guy. AGAIN, IT HAPPENS! She files a claim, claiming the ex husband died, and she wants the money. She gets paid, and the man is none the wiser. AGAIN, IT HAPPENS!

WHO does the insurance company go against? The mother for getting the birth cert(ahem, insurance)? Do they go against the man who NEVER did anything illegal? NOPE! ARE YOU NUTS!?!?!?!?

NOPE, they go against the WIFE for filing that welfare(AHEM, changing the beneficiary), and claiming the man was the father and SOMEHOW involved with the welfare claim(AHEM, died).

HOW is it ANY different!?!?!?!? And YEAH, they HAVE had people do this EXACT thing with insurance policies and one couple even caused REAL deaths to make it seem more legal.

What a magnificent "justice" system they have in the so-called "Land Of The Free"! No wonder men are wising up and avoiding marriage in droves.

Yeah, well that didn't seem to make a difference in this case...
