You are new here and that is your first post?
Why on earth would you join a forum to ask something totally irrelevant?

In fairness Laurence, being the OT section, don't a lot of the threads either begin about something totally irrelevant or descend to that in due course?

Besides, I'm sure there must be some hikers here who might want to share their experiences.

Not being rude to you at all, just saying, it's not the most irrelevant thing I've seen here though of course it would be nicer if Alfordgg maybe shared a bit more about him/herself and where about's perhaps they enjoyed hiking in Australia.

Well, Richard, I was making more of the point that you join a forum to either learn something or ask something related to the theme of the forum. I know we have had some weird topics in here but they are from people with an established track record (mostly.) I wasn't intending it to be rude...and hope it wasn't taken that way.

There are no post requirements to go OT. It might not be the most conventional start, but perhaps Alfordgg just wants to talk while looking over the other stuff here. Maybe he's considering a business related to hikers - or has one. Rock and gem isn't all that conventional here either - but I was able to put that business together because of the OT. Go figure.

Yeah - I hike. Mostly, though, I'm out looking for semi-precious/precious gemstones. I've hiked mountains in WA, CA, NV, CO, OR, WY, MT, ID, NY, VT, and I think NH, but not sure what side of the border I was on so maybe not.

I've found some nice stones in all of those states. Got some nice views, too. The highest "hill" I've been up is 14,150 or some such - Mt Antero in CO. I didn't go all the way up Pike's Peak - and didn't climb Evans but have been to the top of it.

Hmmm, not into rock climbing, but l do like to hike around Melbourne occasionally, (see A Day in Melbourne Post, try page 2 or 3) well walk around Melb,!

Must be a good 5 km, walk, but l do take the lift in Hotel Sofitel, 35 floors is a bit too much!

      And welcome by the way!

I suggest you start with some little hills like Denali or K2 before working your way up to Everest.
