Looks like Prince is trying to hold on to the old ways of the music industry:

I think he has a good marketing person who is using the "something is dead" hook of a headline to get publicity for his new record and creating scarcity by not allowing his music on YouTube or iTunes. Prince the direct response marketer!

It's a brilliant marketing strategy. He's getting craploads of press, and will probably sell a lot of albums because of this. Very creative idea - going the opposite way of everything.

  Dude is odd. I have a friend who worked for an accounting firm that did some work for his studio here in Minnesota back in the mid 90's and it was just bizarre. There were tons of rules such as...
  
  If you run into the "artist" do not look at him. Only speak to the artist if spoken to... and so on.
  
  He was so cheap and wouldn't pay the firm so they ended up firing him as a client wasn't worth hassle.
  
  He still does the same crap he recently stiffed an Irish promoter:

  Sounds like a marketing ploy to try and attract a few sales for an artist who the world grew indifferent to a long time ago. An escape from the "Where Are They Now" file.
  
  The internet is booming, and Prince is like just sooooo 1999.
  
  Now that I've thought about it for a while longer, with the exception of "When Doves Cry" and "Sign O The Times", I don't think he was really that relevant back then either.
