Most bait is in an almost self sustaining environment, and be kept for a long time. HECK, they may not even realize they are in a container. But CRABS? MAN!

This is disturbing to me. It's the same part of the world where sharks are killed for fins, etc - there's a level of cruelty and ignorance toward wildlife in some spots of the globe that I could never accept.

I understand hunters who use the food they hunt for - and understand eating crabs. But I think all life deserves humane treatment and this shows no respect for the creatures while they are alive. I feel the same way whenever I see lobsters languishing in a small tank all taped up.

    Free Crusty the Crab!

Poor guys -- just because they are food people boil them alive and now keep them in a horrible captive environment where they can't move.

    How terrible for them.

Why is it just because they are delicious people can be so cruel to another living being?

It is high time for someone to be their advocate. Where is PETA when you need them?

This is like the primary reason people don't eat veal - because the calves are kept in captivity and not allowed to move so they stay tender.

    Bah humans.

It's not because they're delicious. It's because they aren't "cute."

Some time back, there was an awareness campaign about asthma. As a goldfish flipped and flopped on a dry counter, a child's voice said "sometimes when I have an asthma attack I feel like a fish with no water."

I had pretty much the same question.

You can bet that PETA would have been there in a trice if the child had said "...I feel like I'm drowning" while someone held a kitten or puppy underwater.

I'm no vegetarian, but I'm with Patricia. Unnecessary cruelty for the sake of convenience. I'll stick with Snickers.

If you give a quick study of our teeth, it can easily be ascertained that we are meant to eat some meat.

We are supposed to be, at least according to ourselves, a higher species and capable of transcending the limitations of biology.

We're fooling ourselves. The cruelty, tryanny, destruction of life, suffering that is accrued at the hands of the human puts us beyond redemption.

Call me radical, but I think anyone who has a penchant for this kind of cruelty needs to be removed from the planet - fast. It's not just one form of life that deserves respect - and those that lack respect for one usually can't even fake respect for other forms either. Just think - there are people running countries who feel the same about YOU and I as the people who do these things feel about these crabs. That's scary to the the tenth power.

Well, I don't eat crustaceans. I just see them as INSECTS, and don't want to eat them. I tend to eat chicken, turkey, fish, and beef. On the bright side, they are RAISED for consumption and I would hope they are raised in open areas.

I hope you aren't speaking against non vegetarians, but those that do things such as the cramped crabs. I WOULD like to know how they are fed and waste is managed, if it even is.
