Apple II+ $1200! My father waited until the VERY last minute for Christmas. I told him what I wanted and it cost $900. He WAITED, and the price jumped to $1200. 8-(

WOW, it was a HUGE computer! COLOR NTSC, RFMOD, tape drive interface, speaker, FULL QWERTY keyboard, graphics, and 48KB, 1.023Mhz! WOW! I believe it was about 0.75Mips! FAST! OH, and APPLESOFT BASIC!

For comparison sake? My LAST computer can supposedly do over 3300Mips, is 1.66Ghz, has SEVERAL interfaces, hard disk, speaker, full QWERTY Keyboard, better graphics, 1GB, and cost 1/3rd as much. YEAH, NO RFMOD, NO NTSC. 8-( And NO BASIC! 8-(

OH, I can beat THAT! I took leftover parts from earlier upgrades brought them to my old job, and had my boss buy about $400 worth of parts. A little system, but fairly powerful. It was a 16Mhz 386sx. I assembled a new computer, and used it to develop a PC version of our software. Eventually, another system was bought, and I got the system I had built up from my scraps. Nice system, and I still have it. WOW, that must be a HUGE monitor you have. The largest one I ever had was a large multisync monitor. I believe it was the first one ever made. The NEC multisync. It even used a special board. It was probably about twice the size of most other monitors with it's viewing area. I believe it was 17". I guess it COULD take up 1/2 of a good size breakfast nook table.

I don't remember the exact amount but my friend's dad had recommended that I buy an E-Machine so I did back in 2002 or 2003 for around $800. It was alright, but I probably wouldn't buy another one. I don't even know if they're still around. Now I'd prefer to have Apple with Windows installed or an HP.

Think my first one was back around 93'/94' when my mom bought my sister and I a Packard Bell... I remember a few other computers we had not long after that time, and all seem'd around 2k+ as I remember being at the store with two of them.

      Nothing.

My girlfriend at the time mentioned there appeared to be an entire computer system being thrown out. I grabbed all the parts, put it together, got it to work and proceeded to teach myself an old version of DOS to use it.

This topic comes up every year or so.
Rather than search for the old thread,I'll just answer it again.
    I paid $99 and I got this:
    DAVES OLD COMPUTERS - Sinclair ZX80/81 - Timex 1000

I paid another $99 for an additional 16K of removable memory.

Can't remember what the "printer" cost, but the best description of it would be one of those machines that gives you a credit card receipt.

My very first computer was not a paid one, it was a hand-me-down from a family friend, circa 1995/96. It was a desktop with a 386 processor, I think 2 or 4MB ram, and maybe about the same or little larger hard drive, with Windows 3.1 and MS DOS. I had always wanted a computer badly but at the time my parents had a lot of expenses and couldn't afford to get me one (I was 12). This computer did not have a mouse but I was persistent on using it nonetheless. During the time I had this computer, I learned the ins and outs of MS DOS, and I learned how to use Windows with a keyboard only. I learned how to do things with a keyboard that people can't even do with a mouse.

About a year after that, my dad had some extra money so we bought the latest and greatest thing that was out that time. A Packard Bell tower with a Pentium 233 MHz Processor with MMx Technology (which was the shiz back when it came out), 32 MB ram, and I forget the hard drive. 15" CRT monitor, all for about $2500 I think. We got AOL dial-up, I got onto the Internet, got into AOL chat rooms, met a lot of local girls, some of whom I'm still great friends with to this day, got involved with IM (though it wasn't called "IM" at the time), and made 6 figures over the next year or so before I turned 14. The rest is history.

  • 1991 I jumped "online" with WORLD, if you guys remember them, and my computer was some kind of small screened IBM desktop that I paid over $2,000 for.

It was state-of-the-art at the time, which back then meant expensive, and can't do a lot.

    Oh how times have changed.
The last three puters I have bought didn't total $2,000!

    Good thread.

    I think I paid $50 for a Timex-Sinclair 1000. Shows you how long I've been using PC's.
