Ya know - people are so crammed together anymore that I'd be surprised if there wasn't violence erupting here and there. But what I've been seeing lately isn't just normal violence. It's sick and twisted crap.

Maybe we've just poisoned ourselves beyond any sanity. Rome did that - their whole upper society was lead poisoned from their pipes. The ensuing insanity brought that empire down. We have toxins all over the freaking place now. I'd say we're seeing some of the signs of toxic poisoning. Either that or de-evolution. Something sure as hell is twisting a lot of heads in some frightening directions.

I would hope that no one is getting desensitized to crimes like this, that would be the beginning of the end.

I don't know if it's PC or the cops just trying to be careful...

I heard a report on a major news station this morning about this...

"A man found with body parts in his refrigerator was named as a 'person of interest'."

I did a double take on that little bit of sematics.

I just hope authorities can figure out that the cause of death is murder this time.

What planet are you on? People got desensitized to this LONG ago. It IS incredible, that there is so much evil, etc....

I ponder that question sometimes Steve.

I don't think all people are desensitized, look at the outpouring for Caylee Anthony. They are outraged and IMO rightfully so.

YEAH, I was/am outraged ALSO! But the idea of it happening being a real shock and considered unlikely is GONE.

Steve, thinking about this, I actually agree on one hand and disagree on the other.

I think that people who continually watch this kind of thing on TV and movies, may start getting a little desensitized. As in it's 'over there' and not real.

On the other hand if you have experienced close friends and family members actually get murdered for real, in your 'circle', shall we say,
        ...as I have.

I think you actually get more empathy and more understanding into how far reaching and lasting the act itself and the consequences actually are.

And I would pray to all that's good, that nobody ever, let's themselves get desensitized to the harming and exploitation of children.

Then a society would truly have something to be ashamed of.

What creates such a monster? He doesn't know why he did it?!
Leiby Kletzky's Body Discovered in Refrigerator, Dumpster

"NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said that the suspect made statements implicating himself in the death of the Orthodox Jewish boy.

A source told NY Daily News, 'He has no excuse. He doesn’t know why he did it.' The source also stated that the Jewish man used a knife to dismember Kletzky’s body.'"

When I was 9 I walked across the street to the convenience store to buy gum or candy.. alone! I have a 9 year old daughter, and I would never DREAM of her going anywhere alone! It is definitely a different and more disturbing world now we live in. Then again, it is difficult to say if the boy's parents taught him to never go anywhere with a stranger. I have told my daughter this over and over again and she gets it. There was also an incident not all that far from where I live where an 8 year old girl was lured by this young woman, who told her that she had a puppy to show her.. and of course the girl fell for it... and it turned into a tragic event.

You know, I went around town when I was about 6 or 7. Outside of school bullies, or the random jerk from a higher grade school that wanted to pick on little kids, I really didn't have any cares! And there was halloween! Trick or treat with no fears of perversion, blades, or poison.

When I was about 5-8, one of my best friends was like in his 40s! I was like the son he never had, and he was like the father I never had. He had like 3 real sons, that were in like their 20s at the time, but was estranged. Apparently something about Jehovahs witnesses, though he never spoke about religion. We would go fishing, target shooting, build some things, etc... It was GREAT! And a lot of times, we were over one hundred miles away from my real parents. I guess my parents met him when he was down in panorama city, where he just had a little apartment, but he had a nice home in Bodfish. HECK, what would you think if I told you he ran a SCREW shop! He DID! In fact, leaving his name out of the picture. since his name was on the shop he owned, it was called "SCREW WORKS". He made little threaded(screwed) parts for companies like NASA. He even showed me his shop. Even in the late 60s, it was all automated. Steel rod went in one side and the parts just popped out the other.

It is unfortunate that he worked too hard one day. I even asked him NOT to. He ended up dying of a heart attack. There was a conspiracy to keep anyone from telling me the truth. I kept asking if he died, and they said he was in another ambulance, etc... I found out like a year later that my father asked everyone to not tell me.

It's Ironic. Andy, my friend, was tough. His job was SIMPLE, and relatively low effort. I think what did him in was using the clippers on pruning shears to take down like 1.5-2 inch branches. He could have, and probably should have, used the saw.

Later, when I was in my teens, another friend, maybe 30+ had me over to see his Atari, etc... we discussed programming, etc...

Does this all sound odd? TODAY, would this have been thought safe? TODAY, hospitals provide false security by XRAYING candy! That doesn't help with poison, etc...

Definitely a different and more brutal world today! I even had a 17 year old boy babysit me and my brother when we were little (and my parents did not know him well, they had inquired about needing a sitter, he called and said he would do it and he likely had references they had called.. but they hired him). He was very good with us. No one would ever consider doing that today. Then again, these days, parents are afraid to use any sitter.. who can blame them in today's world?
