I own a 2009 Kawasaki ER-6n (my daily rider + semi-stunt bike) and a 1992 Suzuki GSX600F (my primary stunt bike) and have been riding for the past few years. It's a really great experience but I know there are a lot of "idiots" that ride too. It's really made the stigma of riders "not so great" and causes people to stare me down hardcore whenever I walk into a restaurant, gas station, or really anywhere. People seem to be afraid of us.

Well I just wanted to say that there are a lot of really great people out that ride and we are just like everyone else

It's funny.

We are lawyers, waiters, business owners, trash collectors, truck drivers, cops, firefighters, military, poor people, and millionaires.

Yet we have something in common. I think that's what really gets me going and excited about meeting new riders.

Anyways, I just wanted to ramble

Here's one of my favorite stunt riders.

Hi name is Jorian Ponomareff and he is seriously one of the best stunt riders I have ever seen. He's sponsored by a lot of large companies now too.

One last note.

I understand there are a lot of riders that are jerkwads, but there are also people like me We aren't going to kill your babies... We just want to grab a bite to eat, buy a tshirt, fill up our tanks, and ride.

Thanks for reading!

It's not the rider it's the bike people don't like
I constantly see kids on bikes like yours doing wheelies and other stupid things on the highway in traffic. It's way to common a sight.
So when people see bikes like the gx'er they tend to assume the rider is doing stupid stuff on it.
It's really not fear you are seeing in people, but contempt.
I've road up and down the east coast from New Hampshire to Florida and have never been treated badly or 'stared down'. Here's a pic of me and my shiny metal ass, an 05 102c.i. Road Star at Ball Mt. Dam in Vermont.

    Hey Thom

I definitely agree that it's about the bikes, but I have to say, even you pointed it out, it's the riders at fault.

I've only ridden for a few years (since about 2009) but since then I have ridden more than 40 - 50,000 miles on about 16 different motorcycles and organize a very large community of riders (about 400+) in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

I see a lot of stupid crap and it bugs the hell out of me that people can be so outrageous.

A few months back I got really angry and yelled at a lot of people because 20 of my riders and I were heading up to Williamsburg and almost everyone but about 3 people and I were trying to hit 140mph on 25mph roads... it was bull.

So it's definitely the riders at fault. If they wouldn't act so damned stupid, we wouldn't look so bad xD

I do stunting too, but I would never do stunting on the highway or in traffic. If I ever pull up on a wheelie, it's probably going about 5-15mph and I'm most likely not near any cars, people, and in a parking lot.

I've seen too many riders go down trying to act cool in front of everyone O.o Oh lord lol. Sorry for my rambling, I just wish some people would grow up when it comes to handling such a deadly machine.

      I agree Justin.
I've met many people who ride "crotch rockets" that where great people and safe riders.
With your type of bike, it's idiots doing stupid stuff where they shouldn't do it, giving you all a bad name.
With my type of bike it's the obnoxiously loud pipes and "tough guy biker" attitude giving us a bad name.
By the way I'm not always 100% of the time a safe rider
I tend to pick my spots better now a days though
If I'm on a highway with little or no traffic, I look at the speed limit as a suggestion.
I think getting my bike inspected is just plan stupid and rarely do it.
But everyday before I get on my bike I inspect the tires (both the threads and pressure), my front and rear breaks, and all my lights. I figure that is a better idea over getting it done once a year at a garage.

Now keep in mind I've been pulled over for doing 20 mph over the speed limit on the thruway and road off with a $10 parking ticket. Three weeks ago I went through an inspection check point with last year's inspection sticker on my bike and was waved through. In fact I've only been pulled over twice in the last six years and once was by a trooper who just wanted to know about my bike as he was in the market for a new ride

    Nice ride Thom.

Unfortunately I have not had my bike out the past 2 summers (1995 Suzuki VS1400 Intruder). Now I need to give it a good shakedown. Next spring for sure.

I live not too far from West Point. On one of the back roads to get there, there is a stretch of about 3 miles of straight, flat road. Most any Saturday or Sunday you will see a crowd of "crotch rocket" riders practicing their tricks. Standing on the seat at 75 mph, wheelies, side saddle, etc. They are usually very respectful of other vehicles, etc.

But on the other side of West Point is route 218 - a heavily curved road built into the side of the mountain. The not too bright ones constantly test their limits on that road and have no issue passing cars and other bikes on these curves.

Once in a while, you see a story in the paper of someone who didn't quite make the turn...

Riding is one of my favorite things to do (along with drumming). In a few years, I'll have my Harley. Then I'll be out much more.
