Dumb Crime - Dumber Excuse

In the past ten days there have been several cases of theft of Christmas wreaths and decorations from family homes in this area.

One homeowner had a video security cam installed that caught the perpetrator on film. It showed a man getting out of a new-looking Mercedes, running up to the house and grabbing the two wreaths hung on each site of the home's front door.

When the film was shown on local news - the thief called the homeowner and apologized - said he only "took the wreaths to give them to poor people". The homeowner said if he could find where the thief lived "I'd take his Mercedes and give to a poor family".

Sometimes you just have to shake your head
  • Aha! - The old "Robin Hood Wreath" ploy!

    "It's 10 o'clock - where has your Mercedes Benz?"

Not as bad as ripping off "Toys for Tots" (how scummy is that?) - but it is just the beginning

I didn't know wreaths were edible...

Or, he might try giving them a nice wreath made out of "greenbacks" next time...

Back in the early 90's the chief of police in Central City, Colorado was nabbed for that. He was giving the toys to his own kid. The dude DID lose his job.

That gal in the UK probably doesn't care what any one thinks. As far as she may be concerned, any thing left in the grave yard, is hers for the taking.
That's what I think at any rate.

Years ago I knew a woman who got flowers from cemeteries. When I made a comment about the lovely flowers in her home she told me where got them with no guilt at all.

Her theory was once the funeral was over they were available for the taking. She thought of placing the flowers on the grave as "throwing them away". I don't think I ever had contact with her again. It was just too weird.

I don't see it as a serious crime - but a total lack of class or empathy.
