The Buggles had a minor hit in the UK after this, but were basically never heard from again.

Their biggest claim to fame was that this [the original, at any rate] was the very first video shown on MTV on its launch day, at 12:00 August 1, 1981

And of course, this isn't the right one. It seems to have been removed.

Quirky may be too weak of a word for this.
I have no idea how far Root Boy spread,obviously Wash DC area and New York, but if any of you others have heard of him, please chime in and say so.

wow i remember telstar! ( = way bak - i completely forgot it til just now, riptor! some of the first 'far out' (outerspacestuff)! even b4 devo! yes, . certainly among the 1st 'techno' music 2 hit the waves (some people love 2 hate it)...

Yes,it is the same Root Boy Slim And The Sex Change Band with The Rootettes,but none of them ever had a sex change that I know of!
