Another good one gone too soon. Makes you wonder what great songs talents like Croce, Stevie Ray, Hendrix, Duane Allman, Joplin and others would have came out with had they not passed too soon.

Somehow Jim Croce's early passing strikes me as particularly unjust. He wasn't self-destructive and inviting the grim reaper in as many others whose lives were cut short were, had a new family with loving wife and very young son, was just starting to gain popular success with his songs after honing his craft for years.

        That's true.

There are others who, while not as clean cut, died through no fault of their own. Stevie Ray had hit bottom and was making a great comeback from drugs when he died in a plane crash. Randy Rhodes was afraid of flying but got talked into it, and the pilot thought it would be cool to buzz their tour bus with the plane. The wing clipped the bus and another guitarist was lost.

The same thing happened to Ritchie Valens too. He was afraid of flying, but...flew with Buddy Holly anyway because he was sick and the tour bus had no heat.
