I would love everyone's perspective on what is the biggest lesson you have learned or what mistake did you make at the beginning of your IM career, that you would take back if you could start over again?

I am not sure if this question has been asked before...

I think that this question would help many people as I see forms of this question all the time...

Focus, focus, focus. There are so many distractions and bright shiny things. Definitely biggest mistake was jumping from one thing to the next. Treat this like a real business. You would focus and keep working to make what you are doing better. You wouldn't open a yogurt store and a week later say that doesn't work now i'm selling pizza, then the next week you are selling bicycles. Do your research, pick a market and focus on developing that.

Master at least one form of traffic generation and then outsource as much of your business as you can. Another way to view that is do what you like best and outsource the rest. It is more fun long term that way.

Absolutely! Thought I was the only one who did that! Just kidding, I think probably this is the BIGGEST mistake that we ALL make.

We just get bombarded everyday by all these new offers and MUST-HAVE products and software that we lose our focus. If you constantly jump around from one thing to the next, you will never have any success with anything.

So definitely focus is probably the biggest mistake. I also think not taking action is probably a close second in there but you have to figure out what you are going to focus on first before you can take the action.

It's taken me a while but I think my biggest lesson is to 'don't go it alone!'

I'm now on a good coaching program (John Thornhill) and also in a cracking FB Internet marketing Group.

It's amazing the difference it makes having others to bounce ideas off and to help when the going gets tough!

And of course, Warrior helps as well

        Cheers

    NEVER GIVE UP

Above all, this is the most important lesson I've learned. I've made tons of mistakes and screwed up plenty of times with traffic sources, campaigns, and cpa networks.

If I had given up just once, that would have been it for me.

Never give up. Learn from your mistakes. Persist, work hard, and you can have whatever it is you want.

I felt my biggest lesson was not to attempt something too big and overwhelming as it can become quite difficult and chances of succeeding are lower. That does affect morale and discouragement sets in.

Starting with a small and manageable project and mastering a single method is better than attempting to make money from multiple methods.

    Think big, start small.

Prioritizing tasks by importance helps improve productivity since we only have so much time and energy to work on our business on a given day.

Staying focus and persevering through till you make money and pay less attention to the new methods and stuff popping up daily.

There is no right and wrong, everybody has their own beliefs on what is right and wrong. Go by what you feel is best for you and the people you relate to only. The biggest lesson I have learned is to just go out there and make it happen and learn along the way. The longer you stay on the sidelines the longer it will be for you to produce results. Move one step forward each and everyday and make mistakes is the only way you will learn what is right and wrong for you in your business.

    1) Focus on foundational business building, rather than 'methods, tricks, or hacks'.
    2) Build things - preferably things you end up owning.
    3) Diversify. Eggs in many baskets.
    4) Scale - Take the businesses that earn a profit and grow them.
    5) Build subscriber lists - and market to them immediately.

    There's more but I'm tired.

One of the biggest lessons I have ever learned online is that you need to build a list and you have to respect your readers by giving them value all the time. It is not about SELL SELL SELL. You need to help them with articles and videos.

i wasted my few years in just buying and learning methods from others
But once i stopped reading at all, and i thought what i can do ...
Like then it came to me why not sell services, anything in which i am expert, so i started selling my services related to pinterest on fiverr and other sites, and it worked very well for me
Basically it provided me kickstarter fund for my main projects, only if i haven't wasted my years on trying things that these IM products sell

So just think by yourself, believe in yourself, think of building a long term site, and to fund it start from scratch, start from selling services, anything like graphics, articles, videos, copy writing, sales letter, anything at all, and once you start getting couple you will get confidence that will take you along your journey

Learn and Focus on Marketing, since it's 80% of the game.

I believe, it doesn't matter which niche or business model you use. Even if you do what you love, it won't give you more than 20% of the success at all.

For instance: If you want to become the best writer, hard and cold realities would hit you soon when you would realize that, without marketing, your 'Best Writing' is nothing; you need to market yourself, and your writing, eventually.

Samasung Galaxy, for instance, doesn't produce 365 versions of mobile phones in an year; they make and produce only one version and then market it whole year.

So, it doesn't matter what you do, and what you love to do, without marketing, you're signing your own death warrants in Internet Marketing.

For me, it's important to be open to try out new methods in IM. If it works the first time, scale it up. If it doesn't work, try again. Sometimes, it takes many trial and error in order to find out what truly works. The important thing is to never give up. It's also good if you can find and learn from those who are experienced, e.g. the IM warriors here, which can shortcut your route to earning some money online.

I find it inappropriate to choose one biggest mistake. There will be plenty of mistakes once you start as an IM. Here are the mistakes that helped me a lot:

    - Research is essential in everything that you do whether it's a new business, new venture or new ordeal. You really have to invest a lot of time learning new things that will help you evaluate if you're on the right track, if you're pursuing the right thing, if you have the necessary skills or experience, if it's something that is within your line of interests, etc.

    - Focus only on the things that you need for your current project. Do not entertain distractions that are not related nor connected to your endeavors. Learn to simplify your needs and priorities. Be consistent in keeping your focus.

    - Learn from your mistakes. You must always keep an open mind that mistakes are there to keep you grounded. You must not be easily disheartened by them. They should motivate you in learning and improving your craft. Do not think that you know everything already. Life in itself is a continuous learning process. Be open to commit mistakes since that's the only way you'll learn.

    - Patience is a virtue. You don't expect to become an overnight success. Time is something that is considered an investment in this chosen field or in any field at all.

    - If you can't be original, at least be creative. Learn to innovate and diversify to create new opportunities. Be flexbile.

    - Start small. In everything that you do think Big but start small. This is similar to taking calculated risks. At least, you won't be losing everything in a single investment.

A check list. Have a check list.

I'm dead serious. Every month I make a check list with about 30 important things I need to get done. Some tasks take 3-4 days to do, some take 1-2 hours to do.

And I always put too much work on the list so I can't actually check off all the boxes every month. But some months I get about 90% of the work done.

Ever since I started doing this, I've made HUGE progress in all of my ventures. I use to make daily work tasks, and weekly work tasks, but I find its much better to schedule work for an entire month, and be less specific for every task you write down. There is no need to write out every individual step you have to take. Because when you actually start a new task, it almost never goes as planned.

But ever since I started doing this my earnings steadily increased month after month after month.

So seriously, make monthly lists and try to check off as many things as possible. It will keep you organized / focused / productive and most importantly it will keep your earnings growing.

Yep, l agree with the "don't give up" idea!

I just got my first flyer accepted today, after 3 months of failure or 8 attempts in a row!

I have also learned how to approach this business in such a way as to produce a second income with it within a year or two.

When l got to my 8th failure, the inevitable, "is this going to work", or "the workload is too great", or "failure rate too high" for this to work, crept in?

But eventhough emotionally l wanted to crawl into a hole somewhere, l learned from those mistakes, came at it from a completely different angle, and it paid off, or will!

Imagine if l had given up at my 8th failure!!!!

I most likely would have posted a less positive post here, and tried something else?

Emotions can be useful in business, but they can also block most from great achievement!

Sometimes you need to put your emotions aside and just keep at it! :p
