I have already been quoted $250 by my trusted outsourcer . I have a client wanting a site like this:

berlueboutique.com

What would you quote the site for?

You should be able to get away with quoting $499. Tell them you will throw in some SEO work on the new site as well and you can easily outsource that as well for dirt cheap.

How big of a problem is this website going to solve for your prospect?

Get them to define it and give the numbers, not you. What are they missing out on by not having this website? How many estimated new customers a month? How much is that worth over a year?

If the owner thinks it will draw another 10 customers a month who spend an average of $250, that's $2500 X 12 = $30,000 over a year.

Your website should be worth at least 10% of that, shouldn't it?

I agree. No way I am going to sell this site for $500. Not worth doing for that. I'm thinking a min of $1000.

Get your prospect to define its value for you, and ask them what they think it's worth after they do that. There's no way they should go under a $1 investment for every $10 they make (this could be a great qualifier--if the prospect doesn't value your services, should you do business with them?).

Lifetime value (ie. they are going to have this site up for more than a year, almost assuredly) is also something to consider, but I find one year assessments most easy for people to understand.

Thanks for the feedback. Any other suggestions on price?

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

That site is worth more than $500 easily.

I'd have an idea of price in my head regardless of what it is worth to the customer but I think Jason gives you a great idea if you truly have no idea what to charge.

The way I would do it myself is figure how many hours it should take to build a site like that(in a customer's mind) and times that by say $100 or $200.

In my mind that is something that should take a day or two to create(I know it will take less) and that means $1,000 to $2,000 is a fair price in my mind.

I agree with the posters that suggest much higher than $500 for pricing. I have done sites like that and charge $1,500 easy. Added value that may make it easier for you to sell it is to add SEO and content packaged together. You can outsource both of these tasks for not very much and bundle them together with a nice mark-up, then get a monthly service fee on top.
