Offline Marketing Idea with a shirt?

Hey guys! Hope you're all doing well with your pursuits.

I am here to request some feedback on an offline traffic-getting strategy for my online venture. Weird, I know, but I will describe it right now.

I am writing a book on self growth and development. It's something I feel passionate about and if I can help others achieve the peak of their happiness by building themselves up, I can live happy. I feel as if the personal nature of my book warrants my strategy I want feedback on.

I attempted to sell another book online last year around this time and I failed miserably for 6 months, so I am looking to separate my second venture away from this as much as possible.

My offline strategy consists of:
-Buying a custom shirt with a headline that will catch people's interest in a public setting. I was thinking about having a CTA as a headline (Ex: "Ask me about X") to catch their attention, the headline being relevant to promoting my book
-I would have this shirt on in social settings such as the mall, shopping centers, restaurants, etc., anything that embaces a social vibe between people.
-Using the knowledge I learned about social dynamics and influence principles, I think I can honestly chat up some people in a friendly matter, perhaps making new friends.

Why I think this might work:
1. If I have a CTA as the headline on my shirt, it's a screening line to see if people are entrieved enough to ask me about my book, so the frame isn't "me coming to them" but "them coming to me", having a better frame to build a connection. I was in an Uber with a driver today and he started to naturally ask what I do and I replied that I was making a book and we were honestly building great rapport. I honestly think had my book been all finished up, I could have had my first client.
2. Judging by the skils I already have regarding social skills, I think I can build a significant amount of connections that would be interested in my book. A friendly undertone and connection I think would provide the same advantage as someone online who makes sales from warm leads instead of cold leads.
3. The interaction is in person and as we all know, the personal the connection is with your client, the better.
4. I feel if I do this and get results at the beginning, the social dynamics will only be more effective, having a snowball effect. People actually see people stopping me to ask about my shirt and we could hit off from there, maybe lead into having a lunch at the mall/shopping center etc (Social proof basically).

Thanks guys. All constructive feedback is appreciated.

Sandwich boards have worked for years...

I used to wear T-Shirts to networking meetings which would get people to ask me what's it about. But that was a specific function where people went to meet others.

People on the street are busy rushing somewhere. Not sure they'll be interested in stopping and talking unless you've got something very compelling. Even then, many people would be wary of talking to strangers...

Best answer would be to invest a few dollars and try it out...

Hence why I would deploy this in social settings where people are there to enjoy themselves and perhaps meet other people. I would think the average person would be interested since they're there for a good time and are in no rush to get back to their working lives. Meet, talk, and charm them, and make them a good friend.

I just had ideas sprouted in my mind, attending a halloween get together at my apartment complex, going to meet up groups, etc., it's just sounding better and better by the second!

The only thing that's stopping me is a headline. I want to hear one that's GENIUS. Get the clients on the hook. If you got an idea for a headline or if you want to share how your shirt was designed, I'd love to hear it my man. Can't really switch copywriting on something materal like a shirt in 5 minutes ya know

You did say Malls, Shopping Centres - they're not social settings to me - I dislike shopping as a rule and will get it over with asap...

For a headline, I'd suggest going through Ad swipe files for your industry and picking out headlines and bullet points as a starter. Use language that attracts your prospects.
Here's an Ad resource to start you off...

Talking to prospects will also give you ideas... Listen to what they say and take notes (discretely, of course! )

I got my T-shirts from a local woman who did arty type stuff. She produced the slogans like they were part of the T-shirt, not tacked on like some iron-on stuff...

I would say it would be little costly but on the other hand its a good option too. But i would advice you for newspaper advertisements and vehicle advertisements too
