Over looking something??

Excuse me for wondering out loud, but I can't help thinking folks are over looking the obvious starting point in their quest to build an off line business.

I personally would think that it would be far more important to get a prospect's web site, or lack there of, up to speed than all of this "hand wringing" that seems to be going on about Google Places.

We all know that Google will do what they want. Charge, not charge, bump, drop. There's nothing we can do about that. But, we CAN help clients keep their web sites a magnet for new business.

Now I live in the boon docks. I'm 12-miles from town on a Lake here in East TN, just 35-miles north of Knoxville. Biggest town, maybe 8,000. The entire county, slightly over 30-k. What's the draw? THE LAKE.

Now then, doing a quick keyword search, I find that "My Lake TN" pulls 27,700 searches a month.

Just as quickly, you discover that not one single Realtor appears within the searches, and only ONE Knoxville Realtor shows up, but That's more due to the fact that he owns the domain name. He's sure not pushing the area.

Every top spot on the search page is taken up by directories, NOT by actual real estate companies. But, on the flip side, you may be running into the excuses I get.

"Well, Joe Blow built my site, and he knows all about everything. Just look at the great shot of our building. And, see how good our agent's pictures came out?"

DUH!

How the heck ya gonna educate a bunch of hill billies? I don't think trying to slam dunk 'em into a "Google Places" spot is going to really do the trick in the long run.

Just letting my mind wander again. Forgot to put the leash on it.

Right on, what services you offer always depend on your specific client and your area you choose to market to.

I started locally, but now I'm planning to market across the US, so my pricing and services are different depending on the client and area that the client is located in.

There's no one size fit all service package.
